My Husband's Betrayal My Brothers' Revenge (Rebekah) novel Chapter 223

"Don't worry. After today, I won't ever stand in the way of your precious family reunion again."

Sampson stared at Rebekah, his brow furrowing.

For some reason, her words carried a heavy, unshakeable weight.

It really felt like the second this memorial was over, she would walk out of their lives for good.

A brief flash of panic seized his chest, but as he remembered how deeply Candice had been hurt, he convinced himself that Rebekah leaving was actually a blessing. The fleeting panic dissolved into cold resolve.

"You'd better keep your word!"

Rebekah didn't even bother to respond. She gave him a fleeting, indifferent glance, sidestepped him, and walked out the front door.

Meanwhile.

The Forrester Family Estate.

A heavy cloud of grief had settled over the sprawling property.

Benjamin Forrester stood solemnly before the memorial hall, his eyes bloodshot and rimmed with red.

Candice, dressed in a sharply tailored black suit, stepped quietly to his side.

"Benjamin, I am so sorry for your loss."

Benjamin stared at the portrait of his grandfather on the wall, feeling a hollow ache radiating through his chest. He had known his grandfather's days were numbered, and he thought he was prepared for this.

But now that the day had actually arrived, the overwhelming sorrow was impossible to suppress.

From the edges of the room, the hushed whispers of the guests began to drift toward them.

"The patriarch of the family just died. Where on earth is the grandson's wife?"

"Exactly! The wife is nowhere to be seen, yet the wife's sister is here acting like the lady of the house. What exactly is going on?"

"I heard Benjamin and his wife are on the brink of divorce. She's probably throwing a tantrum."

"Even if she's throwing a fit, there has to be a limit! A death in the family means you show up, period."

"..."

The relentless murmurs only fueled Benjamin's mounting irritation.

He snapped his head toward the gossiping crowd.

Benjamin stared blankly at his grandfather's portrait, his jaw tight.

"She can't live without me."

His quiet, self-assured words drifted to Candice's ears, and in that instant, whatever hope had been fluttering in her chest plummeted to the floor.

The color drained from her face. She bit down on her lower lip so hard she tasted copper, desperately trying to rein in the fury boiling inside her.

"Benjamin, after everything, is this how you treat me?"

Today was her own grandmother's memorial. The second she heard Old Mr. Forrester had passed, she dropped everything and rushed straight to his side, completely abandoning her own family's mourning.

And yet, he was still pushing her away.

Benjamin looked down at her, a flicker of genuine conflict crossing his eyes.

When he remained silent, Candice shot him a tear-filled, devastated glare, spun on her heel, and ran out of the hall.

"That poor girl has been through so much lately. Running off like that—what if something happens to her?"

Her words snapped Benjamin out of his daze. Like a man waking from a trance, he turned and bolted out the door after her.
