My Child and I Married a Billionaire novel Chapter 253

Chapter 253: Chapter 253: I’ll Only Give You 3 Minutes

Listening to his snide remarks and seeing the cold, mocking look in his eyes, Cecelia Archer trembled with anger. She wanted nothing more than to slap him across the face.

’But on second thought, what’s the point?’

’Even if I explained everything, would he believe me?’

’He’s never trusted me. And he doesn’t care to.’

’Forget the fact that the baby couldn’t be kept because of all the injections and medication. Even if it could have been, would someone of his noble bloodline ever tolerate a person of my lowly status bearing his child?’

Cecelia Archer struggled to control her emotions, meeting his gaze for a few seconds.

"You’re right. If it weren’t for your mother, that child would be several months old by now. President Vaughn, is your conscience bothering you? Are you asking all these questions because you want to offer me some kind of compensation?"

’Shameless.’

Back when they used to laugh and joke around, Damien Vaughn had found it amusing when Cecelia Archer said outrageous things, chalking it up to her having a fun personality. But now...

’She actually wants me to compensate her and Shane Grant’s child because of my mother’s death?’

Damien Vaughn ground his back teeth, barely resisting the urge to strangle her.

"The only reason you’re walking away with your life today is because you’re a woman. I don’t hit women."

"Just because I’m not pressing the issue doesn’t mean what happened between you and my mother is over. Cecelia Archer, you are not worthy of even mentioning her name."

"And don’t think you can rest easy just because you have Shane Grant. If I wanted to, I could make you both disappear without a trace in a heartbeat."

With that, he strode coldly past Cecelia Archer and left the hospital like a gust of wind.

Agitated, Cecelia Archer rode her motorcycle back to the hotel. Just as she reached her room, Zeke Walton burst out of Damien Vaughn’s room.

"Where’d you run off to? No one was here, and no one answered their phones. I’m starving! Have you guys eaten? I spent all morning running around and finally got a handle on the prices for these fruits. Where’s Vaughn? I was just about to give him the details. Why didn’t he come back with you?"

Cecelia Archer was dead tired and in no mood to talk. She swiped her key card and was about to enter her room when Zeke Walton grabbed her.

"Hey, I’m talking to you. Why are you ignoring me? What’s wrong? You look awful. Did you get heatstroke? Or did you have a fight with Vaughn? What happened? Did that guy lose his mind again? Did he give you a hard time?"

As he spoke, Zeke Walton felt a heavy gaze land on him. He whipped his head around and saw Damien Vaughn, his face as grim as the King of Hell’s.

’Fuck, what rotten luck. How do I get caught talking shit about him every single time?’

"V-Vaughn, you’re back. What were you guys doing? Why does Cecelia Archer look so awful? And why do you look so bad too? Did you two...?"

Damien Vaughn’s voice was so cold it seemed to emanate from a subterranean glacier.

"You have five minutes to pack your things. We’re going back to Veridia."

"What? You..."

"I won’t wait. If you want to stand here and argue, be my guest."

SLAM! Damien Vaughn went back into his room and slammed the door.

Zeke Walton was completely bewildered.

"Fuck. What the hell happened? I just figured out the prices and haven’t even had a chance to discuss them in detail. Why are we leaving all of a sudden? Cecelia Archer..."

Cecelia Archer also felt there was no reason for her to stay any longer.

’He was right. Veridia had its own fruit network, a fruit tycoon who’d been entrenched for years. Their roots ran deep, their connections were complex. A new entrepreneur just barging in couldn’t possibly shake them. His idea was naive and ridiculous.’

’But why was he only saying this now?’

"Vaughn, you..."

Damien Vaughn continued his verbal assault. "I thought that by coming out here with me, you might have some kind of realization, develop your own perspective. But now it seems... Young Mr. Walton, I suggest you just go home and inherit the family business. The world out here is too complicated for you."

Zeke Walton felt as if a bucket of ice-cold water had been dumped over his head, snatching him from the heat of Sudland and throwing him into a frozen wasteland.

He sank dejectedly onto the sofa. Looking at the man before him, all he could see was a demon.

"So you’ve just been watching me make a fool of myself these past few days? You never intended to invest at all?"

Seeing him so utterly crushed, his face instantly turning white as a sheet, Damien Vaughn knew his words had been too harsh. ’But... I’m expected to understand this person and help that one, but who is there to understand and help me?’

"I’m not that petty. I don’t enjoy watching people make fools of themselves, nor do I like going back on my word. I was just questioning your determination to see this through. The problems I mentioned are very real, but they’re not insurmountable. If you’re serious about this, you should go back to Veridia, calm down, and diligently study this industry from the ground up."

With that, he tossed the car keys into Zeke Walton’s hands.

"I’ll wait for you in the car. If you’re not down in three minutes, find your own way back."

Three minutes later, Zeke Walton, pushing his suitcase, and Cecelia Archer got into the passenger seats of the car.

On the way here, the three of them hadn’t exactly been laughing and joking, but the atmosphere had at least been quiet and peaceful.

But now...

Zeke Walton was in no mood to connect his phone to the Bluetooth for music. The car sped along the road, the three of them lost in their own thoughts as they began the long journey home.
