“What do we do? What do we do?” Evelyn was on the verge of breaking down, tears streaming down her face as she kept wiping sweat from Lillian’s forehead. “This is too cruel… too cruel…”

“It hurts…” Lillian could barely form any other words. Her eyes moved from face to face, searching for help, but no one could give it to her.

Suddenly, hurried footsteps sounded outside. Ruby had arrived.

She rushed into the room, pulling Laila aside and grabbing Lillian’s hand. “Lillian, I’m here! I’m here! How are you?”

“It hurts…” Lillian looked at her, but there was no relief on her face.

“Hang in there. Childbirth always hurts.” Ruby crouched down, lowering her voice to comfort her. “When I had you, it hurt just as much, and I got through it. Breathe slowly, in and out. It’ll help.”

Robin spoke up. “Mrs. Whitmore, she took a hit to the abdomen. The baby likely won’t survive, and her life is at risk. This isn’t something she can just push through.”

Ruby snapped, “Be quiet! Lillian will be fine! My husband has already gone to bring the Royal Court’s wolf healer.”

Robin swallowed the rest of her words. Truthfully, the Royal Court’s wolf healer wasn’t even as skilled as her teacher, but saying that out loud would only cause trouble if word got back to the Alpha King.

Not long after, Titus arrived with the wolf healer.

But after examining Lillian, even the healer shook his head.

“Mr. and Mrs. Whitmore… I’m sorry. There’s nothing I can do. Only Dr. Sagewood might be able to save her.”

Ruby immediately turned to Laila. “Laila! You’re close with Dr. Sagewood, right? Go get her!”

“Rockie’s already gone,” Laila replied.

Another half hour passed.

Lillian no longer even had the strength to cry out. She looked like she’d been pulled from the water, soaked through. Laila kept wiping her down with a cloth, speaking to her softly, but Lillian couldn’t hear any of it anymore. The pain had drowned everything else out. She felt like she was dying.

She forced her eyes open, her gaze hollow and distant, and whispered, “Maybe… it’d be better if I just died…”

“Don’t say that.” Laila’s voice caught. “Dr. Sagewood will be here soon.”

A crushing sense of helplessness gripped her. It was the feeling she hated most.

She couldn’t help Lillian.

There was nothing she could do.

Ruby’s tears kept falling. “Lillian, listen to me. Don’t talk like that. Just hold on a little longer. Dr. Sagewood will be here any minute.”

Lillian could only let out weak, broken sounds.

Her eyes stayed open, unfocused. She was fading.

Outside, Shawn was finally starting to panic.

He had thought hitting her stomach would just make the baby come early. He never imagined it would turn this serious.

Lillian was an Alpha-level wolf. Giving birth should have been easy.

If… if she died…

He remembered Bex’s cold stare, Viola’s kick, and the crushing Alpha pressure he had felt from Laila earlier.

A chill ran through him as he realized he might be finished too.

For a moment, he even thought about running. But Bex stood nearby, watching him like a hawk. His wolf spirit hadn’t recovered. There was no escape.

Right then, Rockie came bursting in, carrying Rowan on her back, moving so fast that she was almost skimming the ground.

Rowan’s face was dark.

She had said she could walk. She wasn’t that old yet. Being carried like this was humiliating.

Rockie charged straight from the outer room into the inner one before finally setting Rowan down.

Rowan stumbled slightly when her feet hit the ground, then immediately kicked Rockie. “You’ve really outdone yourself.”

Rockie was gasping for air. “You can hit me later, however you want. Just check on Ms. Whitmore first.”

Rowan took one look at Lillian, and her expression turned grim. “How did it get this bad?”

She sat down and examined Lillian carefully, pressing her hands over her abdomen to assess the situation. Once she understood, her voice dropped. “The baby’s likely gone. We can only save the mother now.”

“Gone?” Evelyn swayed but steadied herself immediately. “Please… save Lillian.”

Ruby froze, then burst into tears. “Save her… please…”

Rowan said nothing more and focused entirely on treatment. Since the baby couldn’t be saved, she could use more aggressive methods.

She first fed Lillian a dose of Snowpetal Pills to stabilize her heart, then ordered a higher dose of the delivery potion.

Next came strong contraction-inducing medicine and blood-activating agents. The sharp scent of the herbs filled the room, turning everyone pale. The dosage had to be exact. Too much, and not only would this child be lost, but Lillian might never conceive again.

After a long struggle, the cervix finally began to open.

The Snowpetal Pills and restorative medicine started to take effect. Lillian, who had been on the verge of collapse, slowly regained a bit of strength. The contractions grew stronger, and she could feel the downward pressure clearly.

Rowan told her to push. Lillian clenched her teeth and forced herself to bear down. After a grueling effort, the child was finally delivered.

It was a boy. But his body was bluish and still. There was no breath.

Ruby took one look and broke down, sobbing openly. “My poor grandson…”

Rowan’s voice cut through coldly. “Try saying that about your poor daughter first.”
