Eleanor nearly fainted when she heard it. She asked, her voice breaking, “What are you talking about? Is this child not your mate’s?”

To Eleanor, it was like reliving a nightmare.

Two years ago, when Terrence had gone off to war, her daughter had come home in tears one day, begging her to arrange an abortion.

She had said the child wasn’t Terrence’s, but another he–wolf’s.

Eleanor had been furious, but in the end, she still arranged it and buried the matter.

And now?

She stared at her daughter as Victoria’s tears fell uncontrollably. “No, Mom. This child is Holt’s. But I’ve already talked to Terrence. I’m going to break the mate bond with Holt and be with him. He agreed. Mom, I want to be with him. I can’t keep this baby.”

Eleanor’s hand came down hard across her face. Victoria’s head snapped to the side, then she turned back, staring at her trembling mother with stubborn defiance. “If you won’t help me, I’ll die right here in front of you.”

Eleanor’s vision went black as a sharp pain seized her chest. Clutching her heart, she slowly collapsed to the floor.

“Mom, Mom!” Victoria cried out in panic, grabbing her. “Somebody Kelp! She’s passed out!”

After the den’s wolf healer treated her, Eleanor slowly came to.

She looked weakly at Jillian. “You stay. Everyone else, out.”

“Mom…” Victoria dropped to her knees by the bed, her voice shaking.

Eleanor turned her head away, refusing to look at her. “Get out.”

Victoria let out a choked sob and knocked her forehead against the floor once. “Mom, you have to help me. Please. Just this once.”

Only then did she slowly get up and leave.

Soon, everyone had gone, leaving only Eleanor and Jillian in the room.

A faint sense of déjà vu stirred in Jillian’s chest. This scene was almost identical to what had happened two years ago.

Back then, when Victoria had returned, Eleanor had also kept her behind to speak in private and asked her to arrange the abortion.

So had Victoria come back this time to ask their mother to help her break the mate bond?

After hearing the whole story, Jillian felt nothing but anger toward Victoria. She didn’t even want to think about the consequences anymore. After telling the servants to take care of their mother, she shifted into her wolf form and took off toward the Woodses‘ estate.

She had to tell Terrence the truth. She had to make him shut this down before it went any further.

It was the only way to protect their family.

No one could guarantee that what happened two years ago would stay buried forever.

If Victoria got back together with Terrence and the truth came out, she would be ruined, and their entire family would be dragged through the mud with her.

And she truly couldn’t understand it.
