The lead technician looked like he was about to be sick.
Specimen Fourteen could not be allowed to wake up under these conditions!
If the asset went rogue inside this sealed vault, the death toll would be catastrophic!
He spun around, his voice trembling with sheer panic. "Initiate the emergency evacuation protocol! We move the asset out through The Aft Docking Bay right now!"
"Move!"
"We have to get Fourteen out of this cell before they fully wake up!"
The room erupted into frantic action.
The backup squad of Sentinels breached the inner chamber to secure the transport.
Chaos swallowed the entire vault.
The frantic, thundering sounds of their boots carried perfectly up through the air ducts, echoing straight into the Central Pneumatic Hub.
Serena tilted her head, listening to the muffled panic.
A slow, mocking smirk touched her lips, turning her beautiful features dangerously cold.
"And the rats are officially fleeing the ship."
She pivoted and vanished back into the rusted ventilation shaft.
They had taken the bait.
She had forced Specimen Fourteen out into the open.
According to Fenris's intel, the only viable emergency exit was The Aft Docking Bay in the lower decks.
All she had to do now...
Was beat them there.
Serena took a shortcut through a secondary drop-chute.
Less than five minutes later, she dropped silently onto the floor of the lower level.
But her boots had barely touched the grating.
A deafening crash shattered the silence.
An enormous steel shelving unit violently collapsed just a few feet away.
Heavy metal cargo crates spilled everywhere, the explosive clattering echoing fiercely down the cavernous, freezing corridor.
Yet they remained in a total, terrifying deadlock, neither able to gain the upper hand.
Serena stared in flat silence.
The man in the silver mask was Jasper—the mercenary from The Predator's Den.
The other man was Fenris, her brand-new accomplice who was supposed to be setting a trap.
She had literally been gone for twenty minutes.
Why the hell were these two idiots trying to rip each other's throats out?
Serena watched them for a long moment, an absolute, glacial fury settling over her delicate features.
"What exactly are you two doing?"
Her icy voice cut through the corridor like a whip.
Both men stiffened violently.
In perfect, ridiculous unison, they paused their brawl, shot each other a dirty look.
And snapped their heads toward her.
