The darkness in his eyes intensified. "If you keep moving like that, I really won't mind... turning our little act into reality."
...
Deep within Project Zero-Transit.
In the dark, damp conduit tunnels of the lower hull, the air was thick with the harsh stench of blood and chemical antiseptics.
Wearing black leather gloves, Serena felt around the drainage port for a moment before plucking a fingernail-sized collection chip from the grime and securing it in her palm.
She pocketed the chip and prepared to slip away unnoticed.
A tall, imposing figure stepped silently out of the shadows, blocking her only exit.
It was a man with sharp, striking features and a formidable presence.
From his tactical gear and those distinct grayish-blue eyes, Serena recognized him instantly.
Fenris.
Fenris without his mask.
Their eyes locked. Serena arched an eyebrow, assessing the man standing before her.
This was the first time since she boarded the ship that she had seen his actual face.
"Well, hello, Mr. Fenris." Serena tilted her chin up, a flicker of amusement in her eyes. "Showing me your true face—do you trust me that much?"
Jerrick's expression remained hard, his piercing grayish-blue eyes fixed squarely on her. "Ms. Panacea was right. My turf was indeed compromised."
He had just retrieved his Void-Tap and clearly saw that his security port had been illegally accessed right before the preview exhibition.
Serena casually peeled off her gloves, a smirk playing on her lips. "So, I take it Mr. Fenris found what he was looking for?"
Jerrick's muscles tensed, his gaze growing increasingly dangerous.
But Serena didn't waste time on pleasantries. The corners of her red lips curled into a mocking smile. "Your tracker should have shown you that someone tampered with your network. They weren't just transferring Asset 07."
"Someone was setting you up to take the fall."
Jerrick's pupils contracted violently, a storm of realization crashing through his mind.
Serena didn't hide anything. She pulled out the data chip she had just retrieved and looked at him. "Ninety seconds."
Soon, the small screen flared to life.
A few brief logs appeared.
Serena's eyes grew exceptionally cold.
Jerrick lowered his gaze to read them.
The first log showed that right before Asset 07 was pushed into the exhibition hall, The Inner Sanctum Gate had been opened briefly.
The second log revealed that the person who opened the door used absolute Level 0 clearance.
It wasn't Director Kaelen, nor was it any executive officially registered on the ship's manifest.
The third log.
After the gate was opened, a classified cargo not listed on the public auction manifest was prematurely bumped up onto the transfer list for Whitecliffe Harbor.
Jerrick memorized the logs, his grayish-blue eyes chilling over. "Before Asset 07 broke containment, the inner gate was breached. Someone used Asset 07 to draw everyone's attention to the exhibition hall."
"They moved the cargo during the chaos."
