"Ms. Panacea managed to suppress the entirety of Asset 07's neural feedback using nothing but needles!"
"The chip's response frequency is steadily dropping! Heart rate and blood pressure are back in the safe zone!"
Another technician leaned closer to the monitor, practically breathless. "This is impossible... I've never seen anyone manually override an Augment's nervous system like this."
"She didn't just numb the pain receptors or block the muscle reflexes. She actually severed the artificial neural pathways the chip uses to stimulate the brain."
"Yeah..." someone muttered in disbelief. "Who knew acupuncture could shut down a bioweapon?"
Listening to their shocked praise, Kaelen felt a desperate surge of hope. "Are you sure?"
He leaned in and saw it for himself. The chaotic red spikes on the graph were slowly leveling out into smooth, calm lines.
He was just about to exhale a massive sigh of relief.
Then, the lead technician realized this was no time to be admiring The Panacea's medical genius.
He checked the secondary metrics.
All the blood drained from his face. "T-The Sentinel Target-ID Module... it's still locked onto the Sterling Sovereign."
Kaelen choked on his own breath.
He whipped his head toward the Observation Theater.
Sure enough, Asset 07's bloodshot eyes were still locked in a death stare, glaring straight through the glass at Nicholas.
The killing intent was hardwired into the deepest recesses of its consciousness.
Even with its body paralyzed and its nerves suppressed by the needles, the core assassination protocol refused to terminate.
Kaelen's mouth went completely dry. "Then... then what the hell do you mean it's stabilized?!"
The technician swallowed hard. "Ms. Panacea has temporarily disabled its mobility and sensory feedback. Basically, Asset 07 is paralyzed for now. But the target lock is a foundational code in the microchip. It can't be deleted with physical intervention..."
Kaelen didn't hear a word after "paralyzed for now."
He looked at the paralyzed creature, then back at the green metrics on the screen.
His self-serving instincts immediately kicked back in.
If the data was stable, shouldn't The Panacea get out of there?
If she refused to come out, she was deliberately stalling for time.
Wasn't that just asking for trouble?
His panic flared higher.
Suddenly, a soft, low chuckle drifted through the tense silence of the control room.
"Heh."
It was a quiet, almost careless sound.
Yet it sent a violent chill through the veins of every man in the room.
Kaelen’s spine locked up entirely, his blood running cold.
He snapped his head around to look at the man standing behind him.
The Sterling Sovereign had lowered his gaze, his dark, striking eyes completely devoid of emotion. A cruel, mocking smirk played at the corner of his lips.
The sheer danger in that look made Kaelen feel as if he had just been tossed into a freezing abyss.
