Seeing the blinding crimson text, Director Kaelen's face twisted in horror. "What? What is going on?! I never issued this command!"
He whipped around to glare at the technicians.
The technicians were in a state of sheer panic, their voices trembling violently. "It's not us! This clearance tier... it's overriding the local systems! We can't block it!"
A deafening ringing filled Kaelen's ears.
He stared at the master screen in absolute disbelief.
This was a maximum-security preview sector.
The highest local clearance had just been temporarily handed over to The Panacea.
How the hell could an even higher authorization tier be hijacking them from an external location?
Serena scoffed out loud. "The only people capable of overriding a local master clearance are either the top brass of your organization, or a hacker who embedded a backdoor ages ago just waiting for the perfect moment to execute a hostile takeover."
She arched a brow. "As for who exactly is orchestrating this nightmare, I think you'd know far better than I do."
Kaelen's jaw opened and closed uselessly; for a long moment, he couldn't force a single word out.
His expression was a portrait of pure dread.
The Panacea was right.
If this was a direct order from the top brass...
Then he was nothing but a sacrificial pawn on their chessboard.
But what was their endgame?
To completely destroy Specimen Seven?
Or something far more sinister?
The horrific realization sent a fresh wave of cold sweat pouring down his back.
Watching the local clearance rapidly lose ground to the external hijack, he began to tremble uncontrollably. "What... what do we do now?!"
She didn't speak loudly, her tone dripping with a mocking, lazy amusement, but the words echoed clearly in the silent room. "The moment Specimen Seven wakes up, the very first person it's going to slaughter... is you."
That terrifyingly casual delivery made the sheer horror of her statement hit infinitely harder.
Director Kaelen's face was completely drained of life. "Th-The Sterling Sovereign..."
It finally crashed over him just how catastrophic this situation really was.
Specimen Seven's programmed kill target was The Sterling Sovereign?!
If anything happened to him, forget Kaelen's own life—the entirety of Project Zero-Transit would be burned to the ground.
Shaking violently, the director threw himself forward, bowing profusely as he begged for his life. "The Sterling Sovereign, the organization will investigate this immediately! We will absolutely never allow such a tragedy to occur! We guarantee your absolute safety—"
Nicholas completely ignored him.
His intense, dark eyes remained locked solely on Serena, his gaze entirely composed, devoid of even a trace of fear as he asked, "Can you handle this, Miss Panacea?"
