Jasper scoffed coldly. "A show? Fine."
"Let's just hope he doesn't end up getting his own feathers plucked in the process."
Serena's lips curved into a chilling, mocking smile. "If he wants a show, I'll give him one."
Hearing this, Dr. Grant's face went pale. "Serena..."
Serena met his gaze. "Dr. Grant, I know what you're worried about."
Dr. Grant's eyes reddened. "Your grandmother sacrificed everything to protect that data. If she were still here, she would never want you to risk your life in a place like that."
Serena fell silent for a moment.
The image of her grandmother's gentle, loving face surfaced in her mind.
After a long pause, she spoke softly. "But she wouldn't want to see The Black Sun continue to weaponize her research, either."
A lump formed in Dr. Grant's throat. "You're... you're right. Chief Engineer Wynn wouldn't stand for it."
Serena stood up and gently pulled the slipped blanket back over his shoulders.
Her movements were tender, completely at odds with her usual icy demeanor.
"Dr. Grant, don't worry," she said, looking down at him with an unwavering gaze. "I will come back alive, and I will retrieve everything Grandma Aria left behind."
Dr. Grant looked at her, tears sliding down his cheeks once more. "I know I should try to stop you, but... but I don't even know what they are truly planning."
"But whatever happens, those Semi-Finished Assets on Project Zero-Transit cannot fall into The Black Sun's hands."
"Otherwise... countless people will die."
His voice trembled violently.
Logic and emotion warred fiercely within him.
His eyes were bloodshot as tears continued to fall.
He knew Serena was exactly like Chief Engineer Wynn.
Some people were simply destined to walk into the darkness.
Not because they didn't fear death.
Serena turned and walked out of the room.
The others followed closely behind.
Before closing the door, Jerrick instructed the Dragon-Thorn Operatives standing guard in the hallway. "From this moment on, double the security detail for Dr. Grant. Anyone approaching must undergo secondary identity verification."
"Understood."
The moment the door clicked shut, Dr. Grant leaned back against the headboard and slowly closed his eyes.
Tears slipped from the corners of his eyes.
It felt as if he had been transported back in time.
Under the harsh fluorescent lights of the laboratory, a woman in a crisp white coat stood before a group of young researchers. Her voice was gentle, yet filled with an unbreakable resolve.
"Science is meant to save lives, not manufacture terror."
"Every ounce of effort we put in today is to bless the people, to ensure Elyndor has a brighter tomorrow!"
Dr. Grant's throat trembled as he whispered softly, "Chief Engineer Wynn, your granddaughter is exactly like you."
