Lorelei POV
We left the banquet much earlier than most of the guests, leaving Darius behind to deal with the remaining formalities and make sure everything at the venue was properly handled.
I was sitting in the back of the sleek black car, my attention mostly focused on my phone while Kaelen leaned back against the leather seat beside me, watching me for a moment before finally speaking.
"The media is already going crazy over you being my woman," he said. "Your identity hasn’t been officially revealed yet, but it’s only a matter of time before people start digging."
I barely registered half of what he was saying because my thumb was already scrolling through one article after another, each headline somehow more dramatic than the last.
Some of them had turned our entrance into some ridiculous romantic fairytale, painting Kaelen as the ruthless King who had finally found love again after years of being cold and alone. Others were far more cynical, claiming the entire thing had been a carefully planned publicity stunt meant to make him look less like the ruthless tyrant everyone feared.
I was honestly stunned by how quickly everything had spread.
There were already thousands of articles, videos, reposts, and opinions about us, and somehow, everyone seemed to have something to say.
But the comments were what really got to me.
Even beneath the positive posts, there were countless people calling Kaelen heartless, emotionless, cruel, and incapable of genuinely caring about anyone. Some even insisted that a man like him could never truly love someone.
A small ache settled in my chest as I read through them, and before I could stop myself, I glanced sideways at him.
At the man sitting right beside me.
The same man everyone online seemed convinced was some cold, heartless monster.
They had no idea what he was actually like when there was no audience watching.
They didn’t know how gentle he could be with me, how carefully he treated me, or how different he was behind closed doors compared to the man the public thought they knew.
I quickly looked back at my phone, only to have another wave of embarrassment hit me when the next batch of viral videos appeared.
They were clips from tonight.
There was one of me walking along the entrance path together, another of Kaelen and I standing near the high tables, and then several videos of the exact moment Kaelen had pulled me closer, cupped my face, and kissed me in front of all the guests.
My cheeks immediately heated.
God.
I could still remember exactly how that kiss had felt, and apparently, seeing it from a dozen different angles was enough to make me relive every second of it.
I quickly scrolled past, only to notice that in every single photo and video, my face had been deliberately blurred.
But I wasn’t surprised.
I already knew who was behind it because I’d overheard Kaelen giving strict instructions over the phone a few hours earlier, making it very clear that no one was allowed to reveal my identity.
He was doing it to protect me, but that hadn’t stopped the internet from completely losing its mind.
