Chapter 53 

‘It doesn’t matter anymore? Just like that?” 

Ethan’s eyes seemed to barely contain something, his other hand tapping on his knee, betraying a hint of restlessness. 

“There’s a gas station ahead. Let’s take a break there.” 

Just as Ethan was about to speak, Dominick beat him to it. 

The understanding developed over the past month came in handy. Ethan immediately withdrew the hand that Lola was holding and pressed his forehead. 

“Yeah, I need a break. This long drive is making me a bit sick.” 

Lola’s arms wrapped around Ethan’s in a flurry of concern. “Ethan, brother, are you alright? This is all my fault. You wouldn’t have had to suffer this long journey if it weren’t for me. 

Ethan gave Lola’s hand a reassuring pat. “It’s nothing, as long as you’re safe, that’s what matters.” 

Dominick signaled to the driver to pull over at the next gas station and glanced at Lola. 

“Lola, you must be tired too. Henry will take you to relax for a while, maybe grab a bite to eat. Just let him know what you need.” 

Lola’s face fell immediately. “What about you? We’ve just met and you’re leaving already?” 

Dominick smiled reassuringly, “Don’t worry, I’m just going to the restroom. 

As if worried Lola wouldn’t believe him, he added, “Ethan and I have been in the car so long because we were worried about you. We haven’t even stopped for the restroom.” 

Ethan quickly caught on to Dominick’s meaning and nodded in agreement. “Yeah, I’ve been worried about you, Layla, and now ! really need to use the restroom. 

Lola, her gaze lowered, said nothing more and followed Henry into the rest area. 

The men shared a knowing look. Without a word, they understood each other and headed for the bathroom. 

“It’s not her.” 

“She’s not Lola.” 

As soon as they reached the bathroom, both of them spoke at the same time. 

Ethan was slightly taken aback. “You’ve noticed it too?” 

Dominick’s eyes were cold and complex. He spoke gravely. “Yes, she hasn’t called me Dom in a long time, and she would never say something like the past doesn’t matter.

“As long as she cares about our child, she can never let go the past.” 

Ethan, seemingly having guessed something, punched the wall. 

“I noticed it too. She has never called me brother when you’re around, nor does she expose our relation.” 

Dominick had wanted to ask earlier, but he held back in the presence of the imposter Lola, wary of bringing up her alarm. 

“So you two are siblings? With the same parents?” 

For a moment, Dominick didn’t know whether to feel relieved or something else. He had always thought Ethan was completely devoted to Lola out of love, never realizing they were actually siblings! 

Ethan would never discuss the truth of their relationship without Lola’s consent. 

But now that their relationship has been exposed by that woman, there was no need for pretense. 

Plus, the most pressing matter was to find out where the real Lola had gone. 

“Right, she’s my sister.” 

Dominick narrowed his eyes, his hand resting on his forehead, trying to process the deluge of information. He was a bit conflicted 

at that moment.

Ethan’s eyes narrowed as he shared his suspicions. “Layla’s background is a bit complex. I’ll fill you in later. She has a twin sister, who’s also my sister. 

“These two people have the same face, but their personalities are completely different. That’s why I think…she’s Jenna Lewis! 

Dominick was momentarily taken aback. If Ethan was Lola’s biological brother, then Lola’s identity must be extraordinary. 

Given that a wealthy family had lost and then found their daughter, they would be overjoyed and eager to care for her. It was unclear why this so–called twin sister would impersonate Lola’s identity in a small town. 

It was all too strange. 

“If it really is that Jenna, what’s her purpose? Was Lola taken by her, or did she leave on her own?”

His expression grew grim, and he couldn’t help worrying about Lola’s whereabouts and safety. 

Although this woman had an identical face to Lola’s, she gave him a completely different feeling.

“I’m not sure. Right now, I can’t even determine if she really is Jenna, If she did take Layla, she is really something now!” 

Ethan didn’t seem to hold Jenna in high regard, and Dominick concluded that Jenna was likely evil. 

“We still don’t know where Lola is, and what is the woman’s motives. For now, the most important thing is to keep her stable and not let her find out we’ve seen through her.” 

Dominick tried to stay rational in such a situation. Of course, he could just capture that woman and torture her until she revealed Lola’s location. 

His methods were often ruthlessly efficient, and he always preferred the direct and violent ways. 

But Dominick didn’t dare take the risk. 

More precisely, he couldn’t put Lola’s safety at risk. 

“Right.” 

Ethan’s expression grew more solemn, and after a moment of thought, he said, “The situation in our family is complicated. The greater the stakes, the stronger the temptation, so it’s not surprising that even siblings can harm each other. 

“But until everything is clear, we’ll act as if nothing has happened.” 

As they stepped out, Lola was in the middle of giving Henry a piece of her mind. 

“Are you kidding me? How do you eat this thing? Why haven’t they come back yet? They couldn’t have been in the bathroom this long, right?” 

“What’s wrong?” Dominick glanced at Henry, who was looking down, feeling aggrieved. 

“Dom, where did you go? Why did you take so long in the restroom? I thought you two wanted to leave me here.” 

Lola seemed worried that they might leave her behind, yet there was not a hint of concern in her eyes. Rather, it seemed like she was testing them. 

“We’ve been searching for you for a month, how could I just leave you like that?” Dominick’s eyes showed a rare touch of tenderness. 

Lola chuckled lightly, “I’m just kidding. I know you two wouldn’t leave me. I wasn’t angry. I was just too scared, so I might have spoken a bit loudly. You won’t mind, do you, buddy?” 

“Buddy?” 

Henry was slightly taken aback. Lola had never called him that before. She always addressed him by his name. 

“I don’t mind, Mrs. Sinclair.”
