Chapter 42 

Some mistakes, once made, couldn’t be undone, especially when so many wrongs had been committed. 

Dominick couldn’t imagine how Lots had made it through these years. 

He wondered how she transformed from a carefree and cheerful little girl into who she was now. 

But he knew deep down that he was largely to blame. 

He couldn’t bring himself to look into Lola’s eyes. Guilt wrapped around him like a net, tightening its grip and trapping him so tightly that even breathing became difficult. 

“Lola, are you okay?” Ethan asked, concerned. 

Lola slightly looked down, hiding her emotions. “I’m fine. Jessica’s dream has shattered, and of course, I’m okay.” 

Ethan’s gaze fell on Lola’s clenched fists on her lap, and he sighed softly. 

“It’s not like that. It’s not! Dom, listen to me. They conspired against me. I did nothing wrong. The child’s loss was Lola’s doing! You must believe me. Didn’t you say you would?” Jessica pleaded in panic. 

But the look on Dominick’s gaze at that moment was clearly not on her, and Jessica knew it all too well. 

Her last shred of sanity was nearly worn away 

Jessica, in her wedding dress, managed to muster a smile. Standing in front of Dominick, she looked at him tentatively, full of hope. 

“Dom, today is our wedding day. We’ve finally come this far. Let’s not let them ruin it, okay? They’re lying. You have to believe me. I’m your bride. They are outsiders. We… 

“Jessica” 

Dominick finally looked away, his expression indifferent. 

There was no affection, no emotion, not even a trace of hatred. 

Before he could speak, Jessica panicked. The hope in her eyes faded. Dominick wouldn’t even grant her the emotion of hatred. 

“You’ve changed a lot,” Dominick said calmly and coldly, 

He looked at the girl in the white wedding dress, whose heart was far from pure, no longer the radiant dancer 

He wondered if he really liked Jessica. 

It seemed not.

He was merely attracted by the girl shining on the stage, deceived by her facade. Youthful affection was simple admiration. 

But the woman before him now was different from the girl he remembered, and the affection from his youth had long since faded. 

“Or maybe you were never like that. It was all an illusion. 

“Jessica, the biggest regret of my life is believing you and hurting Lola. You can never atong for this.” 

His voice was devoid of warmth, his gaze cold as he looked at Jessica. 

Everything was gone.

The wedding she dreamed of and the man she loved were all gone. 

Lola! 

Jessica stepped back, laughing hysterically. “Dominick, you’ve never forgotten Lola, have you? You were already smitten, weren’t you? Your kindness to me wasn’t because you liked me, right?” 

With each question, her despair deepened, about to engulf herl 

Lola was taken aback. Even though she had told herself many times she didn’t care what Dominick thought, her gare involuntarily fell on him. She 

wanted to know the answer. 

When did he start Sking Lola? 

Or did he ever really like her at all? 

Dominick didn’t have the answers, but ever since Lola vanished from his world, it seemed he hadn’t smiled since 

His world felt like it was missing something, an emptiness that couldn’t be filled. Whether it was love or habit, it no longer mattered. 

He owed Lola more than he could ever repay, and he planned to spend the rest of his life protecting her to make amends.

Lola hadn’t received Dominick’s answer when the big screen suddenly played another video 

The video showed a torrential downpour as if the world was on the brink of destruction. 

While others in the room wondered why Laura would show a video that featured nothing but rain, Lola’s complexion began to turn pale. 

Her face drained of color, and her shoulders began to tremble uncontrollably. 

“It wasn’t me…I didn’t push her!” 

The video shifted direction, revealing two figures in the heavy rain. 

One stood, the other kneeled. 

“You have to believe me. I had nothing to do with this. 

“All of this was Jessica’s scheme. With Landon po 

gone, she would do this. She never planned to keep the child!” 

A slap sounded in the video, and the girl fell to the ground, a slap so severe it nearly ended her life.

child… 

Her harrowing cries echoed through the hall as she was pinned to the ground by servants, helplessly watching her child disappear as the rain turned red with blood on the ground. 

Seeing the bloodstained water carrying away her child’s life, Lola felt as if she had come back to that day. 

She experienced immense pain all over again. She couldn’t tell if the pain was from her belly or her heart.

Her voice was frail, filled with panic. She looked around, unsure where to seek help. 

The sound around her faded, drowned out by the growing noise of the rain. 

She thought she heard Dominick calling her name his voice tinged with worry

She thought it must be a hallucination. Dominick never cared about her. 

“Lola? Lola, can you hear me? It’s over. It’s all in the past. Don’t be afraid. I know the truth now, and I’m sorry. I’ll never treat you like that again.” 

Dominick’s heart ached as he gently embraced her, soothingly stroking her back, trying to calm her down. 

Ethan reached for his phone to call Heather over to hypnotize Lola, fearing she might harm herself again. 

But this time, Lola didn’t fall into self–harm. Instead, she seemed lost in her own world. 

She couldn’t hear anything they said, just repeating the same lines from that rainy day two years ago. 

Dominick hadn’t anticipated Laura would seek revenge on Lola as well! 

“Henry! Smash the video!” Dominick growled with restrained fury, his anger barely contained, but he was worried about frightening Lola. 

Henry acted quickly, and silence fell over the hall once more. Yet, despite the quiet, Lola remained unresponsive to the outside world.
