Chapter 39 

“I think it’s best to wait until after the wedding tomorrow to move in. I’ve heard that it’s bad luck for the brids and groom to see each other before the wedding, let alone live together.” 

Before Dominick could respond, Laura answered for him. 

with a complex expression, Dominick looked at her. He was puzzled as Laura had been trying to set him up with Jessica since not long after Landon passed away. 

Why was she now seemingly in no hurry? 

Hearing Laura’s words, the Moores didn’t press the issue further. 

“You’re right. Moving in tomorrow won’t be too late. After all, it’s just one day away, Jessica said, showing a strained smile. 

After the Moores left, Dominick didn’t rush off. 

“Let me have butler take you home to rest, Dad,” Laura said schly to Frank. 

Now, only Laura and Dominick remained in the living room. 

Although Dominick addressed her as his mother, their relationship wasn’t as close as that between a biological mother and son. 

Dominick rarely stayed in Laura’s place. 

Catching a glimpse of him, Laura offered a cup of coffee and sat down. 

“If you don’t want coffee, I can have the servants make you some lemonade. It’ll dispel the effects of alcohol.” 

She was the epitome of warmth and consideration, fitting the role of a good mother perfectly. 

An unusual emotion passed through Dominick’s deep eyes as he sipped his coffee, his mind clearly elsewhere. 

“I’m marrying Jessica tomorrow. Is there anything you’d like to say to me, Mother?” 

It was rare for Dominick to engage in conversation with her, let alone open up like this. 

Laura paused, then spoke as if with a sigh. “Of course, 

“When Landon passed away, he asked you to take good care of Jessica. And you have. 

“The two of you are a great match, perfect for each other. I will bless you both.” 

Dominick narrowed his eyes slightly, his gaze piercing as if he could see right through someone. 

Laura’s expression was subtly poised as she met Dominick’s intense look. 

“You rarely stay to chat with me. What made you decide to stay tonight?” 

Dominick set down his coffee cup, his expression softened. “Nothing much, just feeling a bit sentimental about getting married tomorrow. 

ou have prepared any gift for me, Mother.” 

“The wedding was arranged so suddenly. I wonder if you 

Laura was momentarily surprised by his question. 

But the surprise quickly faded, and she smiled, “Of course, you will receive a big gift tomorrow!”

“Lola, go to bed early. We need to be up early tomorrow,” Ethan sald, concerned, before going to sleep. 

Unexpectedly, it didn’t rain that night. 

Lola was in a stable mood. 

She felt more clear–headed than ever, so detached that she felt as if nothing in the world mattered to her anymore, 

Outside, the wind was howling, rustling the leaves, yet not a drop of rain fell. 

It seemed as if someone had exhausted all his energy in a long struggle yet failed to make a sound. 

It reminded her of her own despair two years 

Finally, Dominick was marrying the woman he had always longed for. He would definitely look happy at the wedding tomorrow. 

Surely, she thought he wouldn’t look as he did on their wedding day, with not a trace of a smile, unwilling even to pretend. 

Some said hate was just another form of not letting go 

She thought to herself that after tomorrow, she would settle everything here and then let go of her hatred for good. 

Both of them were sleepless the entire night. 

Dominick’s wedding was hastily arranged today, yet the hall was packed with guests. 

The wedding took place at Celestial Banquet Hall, a venue chosen by Laura. 

This hall was exclusive, open only to members for hosting their weddings. 

Laura was one of its members. 

She became a member during Landon’s wedding by spending twenty million dollars. 

She never expected it would come in handy under such changed circumstances. 

Laura managed d the entire wedding planning personally. She looked around with satisfaction at the decorations and the guests‘ reactions, her smile growing wider. 

Dominick glanced at the time. The wedding was about to start in five minutes, and Jessica, his so–called bride, was in the next room. 

The sound of guests and their cliché congratulatory phrases outside made Dominick’s expression even grimmer. 

“Mr. Sinclair, I’ve checked everything. There’s nothing amiss. However, Anna reported that Brenda, who we hadn’t heard from in a long time, has 

ddenly made a move.” 

Henry rushed in, whispering urgently to Dominick. 

Brenda? 

After such a long investigation without any findings, he thought it seemed someone had intentionally kept her hidden. 

Since she had been hidden for so long, continuing to do so wouldn’t be difficult. 

The timing of her appearance on his wedding day was too coincidental.

“Let it be for now. Wait for the right opportunity,” Dominick instructed. 

Henry nodded, hesitating as if he recalled something else. 

“Mr. Sinclair, Mrs. Sinclair has arrived…” 

Dominick’s calm gaze finally changed, but he quickly regained his composure. 

“Alright, seat her in a secluded place,” he responded. 

Henry sighed softly, acknowledging the instruction. 

Observing the lavish setting, Ethan said to Lola, “The Sinclair family must value the Moore family. I heard one needs to deposit twenty million dollars just to qualify for a wedding here. And that’s before the other exorbitant costs.” 

Lola removed her sunglasses to take a closer look at the palace–like hall. 

Her expression shifted from indifferent to surprised. 

“This…” She frowned, incredulously turning to Ethan. 

Ethan was puzzled by Lola’s reaction. “What’s wrong?” 

“Here comes the bride and groom!” 

Before Lola could respond, the lights in the hall dimmed, and a gentle spotlight illuminated the end of the red carpet. 

Jessica, in a white wedding dress with a long train trailing behind her, had a joyous expression that even 

e veil couldn’t hide. 

After all these years of waiting, scheming, and anticipating, she was finally marrying Dominick, just as she had always wanted. 

At the other end of the red carpet, Dominick stepped forward without waiting for the host. 

His face was devoid of any emotion as if detached from the wedding itsell 

Jessica paused, her smile freezing as she followed him down the aisle. 

The murmurs of hundreds of guests filled the air. 

Despite the veil hiding her embarrassment, Jessica’s discomfort was palpable as she heard those murmurs. 

She stood firm, readjusted her expression, and looked up. Then, she was shocked.
