Chapter 77 No More Holding Back

Jillian mocked, “I heard from Ursa that you were the one who ruined the marriage plan between our two families. At first, I didn’t believe it.

“This really opened my eyes today,” Jillian said, her voice sharp. “You’re a married woman, and you’re flirting with another man in broad daylight, even going out with hint? Agnes, do you even know what shame is? Mr. Ruell might be easy to fool, but I’m not!”

She lifted her chin, proud and cold. “And for your information, my husband and I are legally married. I’m his rightful wife. There’s nothing to hide!”

“My daughter is right. You’re a slut with no manners. Your parents are dead; no one ever taught you how to behave!

“Yeah, figures. She’s a jinx; of course she’d end up with someone just like her. Two disasters together.

“Now you–go home. Right now. Stop embarrassing us here!

“With your kind of behavior, if it weren’t for Sabrina being soft on you and always taking your side, Raymond would’ve divorced you a long time ago!”

Jillian crossed her arms, standing tall like she had already won.

She expected Agnes to break down like before. To apologize. To beg. To plead with her not to tell Raymond or Sabrina. To let herself be pushed around.

But this time, nothing happened. Agnes did nothing.

She suddenly noticed a surprising combination of calm, fearlessness, and danger in Agnes’s face.

It was nothing like before. Back home, Agnes had always been quiet and obedient, doing whatever she was told.

Now, there was a cold light in Agnes’s eyes that made Jillian’s skin crawl.

What’s going on with her? Why is she so different today?

Agnes spoke, her voice steady. “Back then, I respected you as an elder. You made things hard for me, and I kept giving in.”

She took a step forward. “Listen carefully, I already asked Raymond for a divorce. I’m not part of your family anymore.”

Her tone turned sharp. “So you’d better speak to me with some respect. And if you say one more bad word about Judy…

She held Jillian’s gaze. “I’ll make sure everyone knows how you once broke up someone else’s marriage.”

Jillian’s face went pale. “What?! Have you lost your mind?!” she shrieked. “This is outrageous! How dare you talk to me like that?!”

She must have lost it to being so bold today. Fine. I’ll teach her a lesson.

She raised her hand again to slap her, but Agnes grabbed her wrist in mid–air.

Her grip was strong. Her eyes were fierce, like she might devour her at any second.

“From now on.” Agnes said coldly, “if you try to touch me again, I would make sure you crawl out from this door. Go ahead. Try me.”

She let go and shoved Jillian aside.

“Arghhhh!”

Jillian stumbled back. Her dress tore with a loud rip as she fell to the ground. She cried out, clutching at the fabric.

Ursa rushed forward the moment she saw her mother fall. But Neal stepped in between them.

“Neal! Move!” Ursa shouted. “You’ve been fooled by her! She’s a terrible person!”

She pointed at Agnes, furious. “Don’t hide!. Come out here! You hit my mom? You better apologize now!”

Agnes let out a cold laugh. “Keep dreaming!. You and your mom really showed me what bad influence looks like.”

“Shut up!” Ursa screamed. “I’ll tell my brother what you’re really like! I’ll make him divorce you!”

“Please do,” Agnes said calmly. “If you can’t even manage that, I’ll look down on you.”

Neal pulled Ursa aside, keeping her away from Agnes.

Ursa’s eyes turned red with anger.

“Neal!” she shouted. “You know I’ve liked you for a long time! I come from a good family. I’m pretty. I’ve never done anything wrong! So why?!

“Why are you so set on being involved with someone like her?” Ursa snapped. “She has no background, and she flirts around with everyone. Why stay mixed up with someone like that?”

Her voice rose, almost desperate. “Why not marry me? Our families could work together–both sides would benefit! Isn’t that better?”

She pointed at Agnes. “Look at her! She’s married! She’s my brother’s wife!

“And today she even laid hands on my mom! Why are you still defending her? What’s wrong with you, Neal?!”

Neal’s face turned cold. “Ursa, let me make this clear. Even if Agnes didn’t exist, you and I would still be impossible.

“I don’t like you. I never have. And I don’t care about any family alliance.”

Ursa’s eyes turned red instantly. He never liked me? That couldn’t be true.

He had always been polite to me. There had to be something there. Otherwise, why would the Ruells ever consider an alliance with the Newtons?

Ursa clenched her fists, her voice shaking with anger.

“Nea, you’ll regret this! We won’t let Agnes get away with this!”

Neal’s expression suddenly turned cold. He stepped closer and leaned in, his voice low.

“Does your mom know what you were doing in Montara? You were drinking all night with a group of guys in Demon Bar. Does your family know about this?”
