I Rejected My Obsessive Werebeast novel Chapter 46

Chapter 46

Silas’s POV

I smiled. What are you doing? As a highranking human, are you trying to seduce me?

Jessica’s expression flickered for a moment before she smiled again. Sc what if I am? You’re a rare Sclass. Only a beastman of your rank is worthy of me.

Even though I already have an owner?

Of course I’m not going to share a beastman with him. So maybe you should take a page from Connor’s book.

Her fingers slid lower, tracing slow circles over my chest.

I caught her hand and pulled it away, letting out a cold laugh. If you’re done, I’m leaving.

I turned, opened the door, and walked out.

I’d taken maybe ten steps down the corridor when the office door opened behind me.

You stop.Jessica’s voice carried down the hallway sharp, stripped of the warmth she’d been using two minutes ago.

I didn’t stop. Then she caught up in a few strides, circled around, and planted herself in front of me.

She looked up at me, clearly annoyed. I don’t understand, she said.

What is it about her? Aurora’s name is trash right now. The Matching Center discipline came because of her. You’re an Sclass beastman haye a future. Why tie yourself to someone like that?

I looked down at her. My voice was flat. Protecting my owner is what I’m supposed to do. She’s never caused me a single problem.

And comparing yourself to her?I paused. You’re not even close.

I reached up and moved her arm aside. She staggered half a step to the side.

I didn’t look back.

Jessica stood there. Her fists were clenched at her sides. Her nails had cut into her palms. Then she said, Wait it! The more you push me away, the more I want you!

Aurora’s POV

When Silas got home, he had a box of cake in his hands.

He set it on the coffee table, and kissed me when he came to me. Strawberry. Last box they had.

I opened the lid. The cream at the edges was slightly smudged he’d been carrying it for a while. Still intact, though. Barely.

I leaned over and kissed him on the cheek.

A scent. Faint. Underneath the usual smell of his skin something that wasn’t me.

My brow furrowed. Then I smoothed it out.

No. Impossible. Silas wouldn’t. He wasn’t Connor.

We pulled apart. He said something about not eating too much, dinne was almost ready. I smiled and nodded.

He turned and went back to the kitchen. I sat on the couch. My phone buzzed

Nathan. “Tracked the original source material to a lowerdistrict imag

shop. It’s a side operation attached to one of the underground fighting pits. Run by whoever runs that pit. If you can get inside, you might be able to pull the original composite files directly.

I stared at the message for a few seconds.

Then I typed: Where?

Nathan sent back an address and a contact name. Added: Hard to get into. Need someone on the inside to vouch. I don’t have a way in from my end.

I memorized the address. Ran through everyone I knew anyone with connections to the lowerdistrict fighting circuit. But nothing. Not a single person.

I set the phone down. Leane

back against the couch.

From the kitchen came the soft rhythm of a knife against the cutting board, followed by the click of the stove as the flame caught.

I picked up the phone again. Unlocked it. Typed the address into the map.

Street View loaded, showing a row of old, nondescript buildings. There was no sign above the door or anything else to suggest what was hidden inside.

I closed the map. Sent Nathan another message:

Send me everything you know about the inside layout. I’ll figure out way in.

Sure. Tomorrow morning.

I put the phone down.

Silas appeared in the doorway holding a plate. He saw me sitting there still. He set the plate on the table, walked over, and crouched in front

  1. me.

His fingers came up under my chin. Lifted my face just a little. What’s wrong?

I looked at his eyes. There’s a lead,I said. Points to a place in the lower district. I might need to go.

Where?I pulled up the address and showed him.

His brow moved.

I don’t know that area well,he said. But I can take tomorrow off. Go with you.

I thought about it.
