Hitched & Hitched Again: A Comedy of Marital Mayhem novel Chapter 1838

When the two men reached the upper floor, Blossom and the others were pressed against the glass, staring anxiously inside.

Inside the ICU, Elysia and Benjamin were performing emergency resuscitation.

Tarquin didn't dare barge in. Frowning deeply, he asked.

"What happened to Axel?"

Folly turned to look at them, looking incredibly agitated. "He moved!"

Although he hadn't wanted his daughter to be with Axel, deep down, he sincerely hoped the young man would survive.

Tarquin and Lowell froze. "What moved?"

Folly said excitedly.

"His finger moved. That's a good sign. He might actually survive."

Survive?!

Tarquin and Lowell both held their breath, terrified that it was just false hope. They stared into the hospital room carefully and tensely.

An eternity seemed to pass before Elysia and Benjamin finally came out.

Tarquin rushed forward immediately, his eyes demanding answers.

Elysia was thrilled and overjoyed.

"Tarquin, it's a miracle. Axel made it through!"

Tarquin's heart hammered against his ribs. "...He made it? He's alive?"

Elysia nodded enthusiastically. "Yes! He survived!"

Tarquin's breathing grew ragged as he asked again, "He isn't going to die?"

Elysia shook her head. "He's not going to die!"

Tarquin took a deep breath and asked one more time, "Are you absolutely sure he isn't going to die?"

Elysia felt both excited and heartbroken for him. Looking him right in the eye, she enunciated every word clearly.

"Axel is a survivor. He pulled through! Even though he's still unconscious, he won't die! He has passed the critical stage! Tarquin, Axel isn't going to leave you!"

After recovering for a long moment, Tarquin finally asked.

"When will he wake up?"

Elysia replied.

"It's hard to say. Although he's out of danger, his injuries are severe. Best case scenario, a few days. Worst case... it could be weeks."

Blossom was completely overwhelmed with joy and wanted to rush in to keep Axel company, but Tarquin stopped her.

He used the excuse that Axel needed quiet rest, urging Elysia, Blossom, Folly, and Hollis to go back to the hotel.

Everyone was exhausted, and he felt terrible for Elysia.

He hadn't been in a good state himself and hadn't taken proper care of her.

Now that Axel was out of danger, they all needed to rest.

After persuading everyone to leave, Tarquin and Lowell entered the ICU together.

Axel lay quietly on the hospital bed, his face pale, completely devoid of color.
