Sinclair POV
I felt a shiver go down my spine when Adrian whispered in my ear. Before we were bonded, I could banter with him so easily, and my breath wouldn’t catch. Now he whispers in my ear, and my body responds so damn quickly. I wonder idly if this is Mali or the mate bond.
‘It’s definitely the mate bond, and it’s definitely all that male specimen in front of us, Clair. Can we go model for him now?’ she said panting.
‘Calm down, Mali. Now you are the one acting like a wolf in heat.’
‘He makes us both hot and bothered. Who are you trying to fool?’
‘I have second-hand embarrassment for you.’ I said.
‘Second-hand hell! I want first-hand experience.’
I closed her out. I already feel my cheeks warming at her brazen attitude. I turned my attention back at Adrian, who was looking at me intently. He smirked at me again.
“Mali?”
I sighed. “Yes.”
“What’s she saying?”
I shook my head. “I’m going to start putting things away,” I deflected.
He smiled widely and grabbed some of the pink bags from me. “Here, let me help.”
“ADRIAN! GIVE THAT BACK!” I said, and I could feel my face beet red.
Adrian laughed and took off running. I ran after him. As I ran, I saw Aiden, Isaiah, Thalia, Kaia, and Mom all chuckling. I’m going to kill that gorgeous man. I’m skilled enough to do it.
‘Girl, the only thing you should be killing is that mattress,’ Mali said.
“Not now, Ms. Hoe down!’
I shut her down again and continued chasing after Adrian, who was laughing up the stairs. When we finally got to our room, which I am still adjusting to saying, Adrian turned around and dumped the contents of the bags onto the bed.
My eyes widened in horror. This is so embarrassing. “Adrian, don’t!” I said, lunging for the lingerie that was making me blush.
He grabbed me, swung me around, pressed me against the wall, and kissed me fiercely. “Shy?” He asked after he released me and I swayed.
Damn it. I need to get control of this situation.
“Did you buy what you wanted because you liked it and it made you feel good, or did you buy what you think I would like?”
“Can’t it be both?” I asked.
Adrian sat up and pulled me into his arms. “Sinclair, I know people have been shitty to you in your life. If you went shopping today and bought things because you thought I would approve of the choices, then you weren’t doing this for yourself.”
I looked down. I was spending his money. Of course I wanted to keep him in mind with what I chose. I don’t want him to feel like it was wasted.
“What is that brilliant mind thinking?” He asked.
I sighed. “Adrian, of course I’m keeping you in mind. I want to look nice for you. I’m spending your money. I don’t want you to think it was wasted on things you wouldn’t like.”
Adrian pulled me onto his lap. He lifted my chin until our eyes met. “Sinclair, you are under no obligation to be careful. If you like something, get it. If it’s something that makes you feel comfortable or sexy or something in between, buy it,” he said and then smirked. “Except for these,” he said, holding up the red set. “I definitely like these.”
My chest expands. He isn’t putting any pressure on me to look or act a certain way. He just wants me to be happy and comfortable. Something warm fills my chest. I’m not used to this kind of acceptance. Maybe I can trust him. I smirked and felt my cheeks heat up.
“Want me to try those on?” I asked, trying to flirt with my mate.
His eyes darkened. “Hell, yeah.”
