X: [Which questions are you stuck on? I can teach you.]
Winona froze. She hadn't expected Jupiter—who always seemed so cold and aloof—to actually be this nice.
She replied regretfully: [I don't know how to do any of them.]
He didn't say anything else, but shortly after, photos of all the completed worksheets came through.
Honestly, Winona could have just used an app to scan and search for the answers, but going through them one by one would have taken until midnight. Copying someone else's work was infinitely faster.
Winona spent half an hour filling out all four worksheets. Feeling refreshed and accomplished, she changed into her pajamas and threw herself onto the bed. She scrolled through some videos for a bit before enthusiastically opening a shopping app, happily browsing through the items.
"Miss," Martha knocked twice on her door from the hallway. "Dinner is ready."
"Coming."
Winona grabbed a hair claw from her vanity, casually twisted her long hair up, and headed downstairs.
In her past life, right after the Lennox family went bankrupt, Martha had packed up and moved back to her hometown. Having gone so long without tasting Martha's cooking, Winona truly missed it.
Seth was the only one sitting at the dining table.
Stella didn't have a habit of eating dinner.
Winona paused. "Where's my dad?"
Martha replied, "Mr. Lennox hasn't returned yet."
Winona nodded. After washing her hands, she sat down right next to Seth.
Seth's fork stopped mid-air.
Normally, Winona would choose a seat as far away from him as physically possible. The long dining table seated twelve. Whenever their family of four ate together, it always felt like strangers forced to share a table at a crowded restaurant.
Seeing the siblings sitting together, Martha smiled warmly. She opened a bottle of juice and poured a glass for each of them.
"Thanks, Martha."
Always a sweet talker, Winona took a sip of the sweet orange juice before turning to look at Seth.
Seth tapped his bowl with his fork. "Is there a flower growing on my face?"
"I'm just showing some concern for you," Winona asked earnestly. "Did you have fun playing pool this afternoon?"
Assuming she was just having some kind of mental episode, Seth gave a dismissive nod. "Yeah."
Seth's expression returned to its usual icy state, his long eyelashes casting a faint shadow over his lower lids. "No wonder."
"What..." Winona was completely confused.
Seth didn't answer immediately. He was just thinking, *No wonder she suddenly came looking for me. No wonder she suddenly stood up for me.*
And to think he had actually been distracted while playing pool all afternoon, genuinely believing his sister had turned over a new leaf.
He curled his lips into a faint smirk, though the smile didn't reach his eyes. "Then you're going to be disappointed. How could a slacker like me have the same hobbies as a perfect student like him?"
"A perfect student?" Winona repeated. "Are you talking about Herbert?"
Seth said nothing, his eyes staring directly into hers.
Silence meant yes.
Winona's forehead wrinkled with question marks. "What does this have to do with Herbert?"
Seth sneered. "Keep acting."
Winona nearly choked on her breath. She raised her hand, swearing to the heavens, "If my questions just now had anything to do with Herbert, then I..."
