Chapter 601 Two Months Later

In the blink of an eye, two months had passed.

Tycoon Farm no longer looked anything like it had two months ago.

The once uneven wasteland had been turned over into neat rows. Newly cultivated fields stretched all the way to the horizon in perfectly straight lines, as if measured with a ruler.

The narrow drainage ditches had been dug several times deeper and wider, their walls smoothed and straightened so water flow through without obstruction.

The piles of construction debris, dead branches, rotting leaves, and discarded farm tools that used to sit on the garbage hills had all been cleaned away. Not even a blade of grass remained.

The ones doing all this work were groups of employees dressed in matching gray-green uniforms.

They spoke little and worked efficiently. They never slacked off, never complained, and never asked for breaks.

Give them a basket of strawberry vines, cucumber vines, and old vegetable leaves, and they could work for an entire day, workin quickly and doing it well.

They were the Swarmborns that Elizabeth had harvested batch after batch.

Elizabeth stood beside the newly opened fields with her hands on her hips, watching a group of Swarmborns in the distance digging channels with their heads lowered.

Their movements were perfectly synchronized. Six legs planted firmly in the soil while their forelimbs worked like excavator buckets. One sweep would overturn a massive chunk of earth and throw it onto the edge of the ditch.

Another Swarmborn beside them immediately packed and smoothed the displaced dirt, and the ditch walls became smooth and

level at once.

Working together, they looked like a perfectly precise machine.

“Ms. Schofield, look over there.” Desmond stood beside her and pointed toward another section of land being developed in the distance.

More than ten Swarmborns stood in a line, advancing in sync.

With every rise and fall of their claws, hardened ground was turned into soft, loose soil, while even stones were picked out and piled neatly to the side.

Their efficiency was higher than that of robots.

Elizabeth nodded with satisfaction. “Not bad. This is better than I expected.”

She turned toward Desmond. “How’s their consumption? Can the farm still keep up with feed production:”

“No problem at all!” Desmond opened the record tablet in his hand. “Right now we’ve got 2,627 Swarmborns Dally feed supply is around 27 tons, mostly fruit and vegetable vines, corn stalks, and plant waste. Based on the farm’s current plant output, we con still support another five thousand Swarmborns. Plus, the farm’s land is still expanding and plant waste output keeps increasing every day. Feed supply isn’t a problem at all.”

At these costs, they were operating at roughly one-tenth the expense of using machines for equivalent labor, and they didn’t ne breaks, repairs, maintenance, or supervision against slacking off.

Desmond couldn’t help sighing. These Swarmborns really can endure hardship. They work even harder than prisoners in labor camps trying to earn early release. There’s absolutely no cutting corners.”

“Of course.” Elizabeth bent down, picked up a stone that had been turned out of the soil, and casually tossed it to the roadside. “Swarmborn brain cores are only that big. Once they lock onto something, they’ll stubbornly chase it to the end. Right now, the locked onto eating greens, working, and trading labor for strawberries, so they’ll definitely do their best. Slacking off? Their bra capacity isn’t big enough to support strategies that complicated.”

She dusted the dirt off her hands. “Let’s go check the next area.”

Desmond closed the record tablet and followed behind her, but couldn’t help asking another question. “Ms. Schofield, it’s been long time since any new Swarmborns showed up. Do you think the Swarmborns have gotten suspicious…”

Elizabeth paused. “Mm. It has been a little too quiet.”

She looked up toward the distant sky. “But compared to the Swarmborns, I think someone else is having a harder time sitting st

She was talking about the people in the Fifth Military.

Gregory stood in his office facing the floor-to-ceiling windows, his fingers tapping against the desk twice as fast as before.

He had spent three straight days reading reports, and every single one made the anger in his chest burn hotter.

“Why hasn’t there been any movement from the Swarmborns? We sent them the defense deployment map over two months ago What are they waiting for? Waiting for the strawberries at Tycoon Farm to ripen?”

Weston sat on the couch with his head lowered, not daring to speak.

“Did you personally contact the Swarmborns?” Gregory turned around and stared at him.

Weston shook his head. “Chief Gregory, our communication channels with the Swarmborns have always been one-way. They contact us; we can’t contact them. That was the original agreement…”

“That was before!” Gregory cut him off, his voice suddenly rising. “Things have changed now! If the Swarmborns refuse to move, then the defense map we sent was for nothing! That mining planet was for nothing! We’ve already lost enough!

Weston stayed silent for a moment before speaking cautiously. “Chief Gregory, how about I send someone to the Swarmborns border under the pretense of an intelligence exchange? We could test the waters and see what they’re thinking”
