Elizabeth stood on top of a hill, looking down over the grayish-brown wasteland below, filled with a quiet sense of satisfaction she couldn’t quite put into words.
Starting today, this planet belonged to her.
In the distance, she heard Tiffany calling for her to come back and eat.
Elizabeth answered, slipped the last used energy stone fragment into a sealed bag, tucked it inte her backpack, and headed back toward the camp.
“Boss, where’d you wander off to?” Tiffany asked as she handed her an insulated lunch box, giving her a curious ofice-over.
Elizabeth’s clothes were dusty, and the soles of her boots were caked with dirt. She looked like she’d climbed several hills.
Elizabeth accepted the lunch box and lifted the lid. A wave of warm steam rose into her face.
“I just wandered around and checked out those hills over there.” She pointed into the distance. “The view’s pretty nice. It’s just really windy.”
Tiffany looked in the direction she pointed but couldn’t see anything special.
“Oh, right.” Elizabeth took a bite of her lunch and spoke through the food. “I walked all over the place, and the planet feels pretty safe. I didn’t notice anything unusual.”
Tiffany nodded. “Our preliminary survey found the same thing. The equipment is mostly in good condition, and the mineral deposits are even larger than the reports claimed. We haven’t found any hidden surprises left behind by the Fifth Military.”
She paused. “Still, I can’t shake the feeling that everything’s gone a little too smoothly.”
Elizabeth didn’t respond. She simply lowered her head and kept eating.
She knew perfectly well the Fifth Military wouldn’t let this go so easily.
The only thing they could really do was target the farm.
And now the farm had been turned into an iron fortress. All she had to do was wait for them to come.
After finishing lunch, Elizabeth stood up and dusted off her pants.
“I’m not going with you this afternoon. I’ll stay here at camp and rest. You all keep working.”
Tiffany nodded and led the team back out.

Elizabeth stood beside the camp, watching them disappear behind the hills before turning and walking into the oldest prefab building.

Every mark was carefully labeled with its location, type, coverage area, and the energy consumption rate of its stone.

After writing the last note, she straightened up, fulded the star chart, and tucked it into the hidden inner pocket of her backpack.
Then she pushed open the door, stepped outside, and stood in front of the prefab building, fooking out across the grayish brown wasteland.
The wind blew hard, tossing her hair in every direction, but she didn’t move.
“To everyone in the Fifth Military,” she said softly, as if speaking to someone far away, “I’m keeping this planet.”
The wind carried her words away, but the arrays buried deep underground continued working in complete silence.
They didn’t need anyone guarding them. They didn’t need maintenance. As long as they had enough energy, they would keep running forever.
Elizabeth turned and walked toward the spaceship.
After stepping onto the boarding ramp, she looked back one last time.
The setting sun had dropped behind the tallest hill, bathing the entire wasteland in a warm orange glow.
She suddenly realized the planet was far more beautiful than she’d ever imagined.
Elizabeth waited for a long time..
From the day the Fifth Military signed over the mining planet, she had been waiting.
Waiting for them to make their move. Waiting for them to strike back. Waiting for the schemes hidden in the shadows to finally reveal themselves.
One day. Two days. One week. Two weeks.
The energy stones from the mining planet were already being mined without interruption.
The first shipment had arrived back at the farm, and after Melton tested the ore, he found the quality was even better than expected.
Yet the Fifth Military remained completely silent.
The silence was almost unnatural.

So when Melton walked into her office carrying an application from a visiting business delegation, Elizabeth was sitting there eating strawberries.
She accepted the application and glanced at it.
A Kingdom Business Cooperation Delegation made up of fifty representatives from several trading companies on Odyssey Planet requested a three-day business visit to the farm to discuss large-volume purchasing agreements.
The application was professionally written, carefully worded, and included compiete company credentials. Even the trave! schedule was laid out in detail, leaving no obvious flaws.
Elizabeth set the application down and looked at Melton. “What do you think?”
Melton adjusted his glasses. “Everything looks fine on paper. But I looked into those trading companies. They were all registered within the last six months. They have plenty of connections in Centria, but almost no actual business history.”
He paused. “They look a lot like shell companies created specifically for this visit.”
