Veronica stared daggers at their retreating backs, her eyes practically burning with toxic hatred.
Whipping her head around, she unleashed all her pent-up, explosive rage onto Yardley.
"What the hell was that, Yardley?" She stalked toward him, her gaze filled with a venomous mix of grievance and fury. "I am your legally wedded wife! Who is Scarlett? She's your ex. She's a stranger! Instead of defending me, you take the side of an outsider and a glorified servant to humiliate me?"
"Are you still hung up on her? Is that it? Seeing her all glamorous today made you regret everything, didn't it? You regret marrying me and dumping her!"
Her hysterical screaming sent a throbbing ache pulsing through Yardley's temples. The crushing exhaustion, stress, and regret of the past days collided all at once.
He was already drowning in anxiety over Scarlett's warning about the company's impending doom. Dealing with Veronica's completely irrational tantrum pushed his irritation to the absolute limit.
He looked at the woman standing in front of him—face twisted in ugly rage, eyes burning with paranoia—and felt nothing but a chilling sense of unfamiliarity.
Before they were married, Veronica had played the part perfectly: intelligent, elegant, calm, and visionary. She had seemed like the ultimate strategic partner.
But the moment the ink on their marriage license was dry, her true colors bled through. Selfish, domineering, petty, and vindictive.
Instead of being the savior Flynn Group needed, she was a parasite, creating endless internal chaos and chaining his company to her own family's sinking ship. She was using him as a human shield.
Yardley let out a heavy, ragged breath. When he spoke, his voice was absolute ice.
"I wasn't defending an outsider. I was dealing with facts."
"You blew things out of proportion and assaulted a man for no reason. Nathan works himself to the bone for this company. He didn't deserve to be humiliated and slapped by you."
"If you're going to be a part of this family, learn your place. Flynn Group is on the brink of collapse. I need stability and unity, not a wife who waltzes into the office to throw a tantrum, alienate my staff, and cause unnecessary drama."
