He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 820

"The law decides whether I have the right or not."

Yardley didn't back down an inch, meeting Jacqueline's furious glare head-on. "I didn't come here to start a fight with you, and I certainly didn't come to rip a child from your arms."

"I'm simply asking you to prepare yourself to hand Dawn over to me. If necessary, I will hire a legal team and handle this transition strictly through the courts."

He paused, a flicker of genuine plea entering his voice. "But I really don't want us to end up battling in a courtroom. Not when Scarlett's memory is still so fresh."

Jacqueline shot him a venomous look, raw fury simmering just beneath the surface of her icy exterior.

Without another word, she spun around and stalked back inside.

Yardley's tightly clenched jaw relaxed slightly. *She's caving,* he thought. *She's going back inside to get Dawn.*

The thought of holding his soft, perfect little girl again made his heart swell with warmth.

He quickly calculated how long it had been. He hadn't seen his daughter in ages. A baby that young changed every single day; she must have grown so much. He wondered if she had learned to say 'Dad' yet.

He stood on the porch, deeply lost in hopeful anticipation.

A moment later, Jacqueline reappeared, marching out the door carrying a large basin filled to the brim with water.

Yardley frowned in confusion, opening his mouth to ask what she was doing.

Without a second's hesitation, Jacqueline hoisted the heavy basin and hurled the freezing water directly into Yardley's face, drenching him from head to toe!

The shock of the freezing water felt like ice injected straight into his veins.

He frantically wiped the water from his eyes, staring at her in absolute shock, his temper finally flaring. "What the hell is wrong with you?!"

He genuinely felt he hadn't done anything wrong, yet her words made him feel as though he was being publicly flogged for a heinous crime.

Had he really acted too fast?

A wave of self-doubt washed over him, and he opened his mouth, desperately trying to formulate some kind of defense.

Before he could get a word out, a sleek black Maybach tore up the driveway, slamming to a halt right outside the gates of the Magnolia Villa.

Corinne, flanked by Melanie and Sylvia, practically leaped out of the car, practically vibrating with aggressive energy.

Seeing Yardley standing on the porch, soaked to the bone and humiliated while Jacqueline stood over him clutching an empty plastic basin, they instantly realized what had happened.

Corinne lunged toward the gate, pointing a furious finger straight at Jacqueline's face. "You absolute lunatic! How dare you throw water on my son!"
