Unsurprisingly, everything was unfolding exactly as she had predicted.
She had barely 'died,' her metaphorical body wasn't even cold yet, and these people couldn't wait to flock to Orchard Villa, popping champagne in the living room to celebrate.
Following the previous hidden camera incident, Yardley had ordered all the security feeds in Orchard Villa to be dismantled.
What he didn't realize, however, was that after the property was transferred to Scarlett's name, she had quietly had new cameras installed.
Her original intention had been to prevent burglaries, since the property was largely vacant. She never expected to capture such a dramatic spectacle.
Through the hidden lenses, every word they uttered was recorded with crystal clarity.
This only cemented Scarlett's suspicion that the attack on her and Julian in Country A hadn't been Kane Stetson's solo operation, but a coordinated conspiracy involving several key players.
Scarlett watched in silence, her expression mostly unreadable.
It was only when Corinne smugly pointed out that Yardley would 'put on a show of reluctance even if he secretly wanted it' that Scarlett couldn't help but let out a dry, mocking laugh.
No one knew a son like his mother. Corinne understood Yardley even better than he understood himself.
The inherent cold-bloodedness etched into someone's bones could never be trained out of them. Yardley, Franklin, Melanie, and Clarissa—they were all meticulously, inherently selfish. It was woven into their very DNA.
Scarlett's gaze drifted toward Catherine Flynn on the monitor.
She was sitting in the corner, holding a dog, looking genuinely somber. Scarlett couldn't tell if she was actually mourning her 'death.'
Perhaps in the entirety of the Flynn family, this quiet, unassuming middle sister was the only one who harbored even a sliver of genuine feeling toward her.
As for the rest, their sole focus had always been, and would always be, personal gain.
"Here, open up—"
As he offered his soothing words, Julian scooped up a small piece of saffron-infused broth, blowing on it gently before bringing the spoon to her lips.
Scarlett obediently parted her lips, taking the bite. The broth was incredibly rich and comforting, practically melting on her tongue with a subtle, aromatic herbal flavor. It was delicious.
Julian then scooped up a tender piece of chicken with a little more broth, feeding it to her again.
Scarlett realized the chicken was perfectly tender and the broth was incredibly savory. More importantly, Julian had meticulously removed every single bone. The level of care was astonishing.
For the first time in her life, she felt truly, thoroughly cared for.
She stared at him, a flicker of deep emotion in her eyes. "Julian... why are you being so good to me?"
