In his original plan, Julian's contact would betray them, leading them straight into Narco-Town where a mob of junkies would rip Scarlett apart and ruin her life forever.
His only mistake was getting greedy. He just had to have a taste of her first in the chaos.
And now, she knew who he was.
He knew exactly what had to happen next: she had to die.
If she made it back alive, she would tear off his mask. His entire empire, his connection to Kane—it would all burn.
But looking down at her tears, a twisted sense of pity washed over him.
He hadn't wanted it to end like this. He was just following Kane's orders.
Staring at her flawless face, ruined by tears and terror but still driving him absolutely insane, his lips curled into a sick, deranged smile.
"You don't want to die, do you?"
Scarlett nodded frantically. But as she did, her peripheral vision caught movement in the shadows.
A tall, broad-shouldered figure was stalking toward them.
*Julian!*
Her dying heart violently jump-started.
The second their eyes met, Julian froze, his gaze locking onto hers, silently commanding her not to panic.
"I don't want you to die either," Heath whispered.
"How about this... I hit you hard enough to scramble your brains. You can be my beautiful, mindless little pet, and you'll stay with me forever. How does that sound?"
Heath slowly raised his hand, aiming for her temple.
But before Julian could do anything else, his gaze snapped to the ledge.
With her hands and feet bound and Heath's weight no longer anchoring her, Scarlett was tipping backward over the drop.
The wind howled, pushing her closer to the edge. With her mouth taped, she couldn't even scream.
Desperate, she dug her manicured fingernails into the rough concrete to anchor herself. Her nails cracked and splintered, blood smearing across the grey stone as she slid backward.
Half her body was already suspended over the abyss. One slip, and the raging waters would swallow her whole.
"Scarlett!"
Julian's voice tore from his throat in a raw, animalistic roar.
Completely ignoring Heath, he threw himself at the edge, his knees slamming brutally into the concrete. Just as her fingers gave out and she fell backward into the void, he lunged.
