He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 794

"I have to admit, you're tough. That was enough to knock out a horse, and you're still awake."

He let out a heavy sigh. "But since you know who I am, you leave me no choice."

He floored the gas pedal, the car tearing down the desolate street. His voice drifted back from the driver's seat, devoid of any warmth.

"I didn't want to kill you. But if you live, I'm completely exposed."

"So, I'm sorry, Scarlett. Truly, I am. I want you to know that I've loved you since high school. It's just a shame you never once looked at me."

"I never thought I'd be the one to send you to your grave."

"But my hands are tied. I have to do this."

"You really should have just gone to sleep back there. At least you would have kept your life."

He spoke in a casual, conversational tone, as if they were discussing the weather, but the words sent a bone-deep chill through her.

Lying paralyzed in the backseat, a cold sweat broke out across her spine.

It wasn't that she had some miraculous immunity to the drug. She suffered from severe allergies, and the gloomy weather in Country A had triggered a massive sinus infection, leaving her completely congested. She hadn't inhaled nearly enough of the fumes to knock her out.

A stroke of luck that had ultimately sealed her fate.

Because now, he was going to silence her permanently.

She tried to push herself up, fighting against the heavy numbness in her muscles, but it was useless. She had zero strength left.

Before she could even try to sit up, he dragged her out of the backseat. In seconds, he bound her wrists and ankles with a thick, heavy rope, tying her up so tightly she couldn't move an inch.

The damp, salty smell of the ocean filled her lungs. Turning her head, she realized he had brought her to a massive dam near the estuary.

Below them lay a churning, violent expanse of yellow, muddy water. The current was absolutely ferocious, roaring like a stampede of wild beasts rushing to break into the sea.

He pulled a roll of duct tape from his pocket. Just as he reached down to seal her mouth, she screamed with everything she had left.

"Heath Sheridan! We were friends! You're Talia's cousin!"

"If you're going to kill me, at least give me the truth! Let me die knowing why!"
