Chapter 8

(Daisy’s POV)

I returned to my room after that incident.

I didn’t steal any food or go back to drink anymore water. I rushed back to my room and locked myself there.

Hunger was still clawing on my belly but it wasn’t my priority anymore. My priority was hiding myself in the quiet until I can forget what had taken place… or at least the things I had been saying out loud.

That didn’t seem feasible so I just sat there, hungry with misaligned priorities. Eventually, hunger completely took over and whe there was a notifying knock for my lunch in the afternoon, I rushed towards the door and grabbed it.

Pride is important, but starvation seemed worse.

I carried the tray inside and inspected it suspiciously.

Sandwich. Fries. Ketchup. Nice.

I squeezed the ketchup onto a fry and it came out watery and weird so I checked the bottle.

Expired.

“Oh you’ve got to be kidding me.”

I opened the door.

“Hey!”

The guard was already halfway down the hall.

“The ketchup is expired!” I announced but he kept walking.

“Hello?!”

No answer.

What?

Hunger grew idle a bit and frustration took over as I grabbed the bottle and marched down the hallway.

If DeLuca thought I was eating expired condiments because I’m a prisoner, then he’s mistaken.

I asked another guard where he was.

“He’s in a meeting,” the man said stiffly. “Don’t go there.”

That sounded like a challenge so I followed the hallway until I found a large door that looked significant. Voices murmured within so I pushed it open to check. And yeah, it was the right room as my eyes instantly told me.

About ten men sat around a long table.

Some were smoking. Some looked like they owned small countries but now all of them stared at me like I had just walked into lion enclosure wearing a steak costume.

I walked in anyway and closed the door behind me.

Then held up the bottle..
