He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly novel Chapter 61

Chapter 61

DeLuca might probably resume monitoring me soon but then I wouldn’t be required to spend time with him and put him through his student orientation and all that.

Now he had so many people for that, and could just watch me from afar. Good.

I continued my day with this hope of normality and peace- but that lasted exactly three minutes.

I saw them before they saw me… Or at least, I thought I did.

Nathan. Mabel. And the rest of their good-looks orbit.

The demigods of the school.

They weren’t just in the hallway I stepped in. They were walking towards my direction in a way that made everything else feel like background noise. People moved around them differently and conversations dipped as they passed as the atmosphere adjusted to accommodate them without being asked.

It was subtle, and obvious at the same time.

I shifted direction immediately in order to escape. No hesitation.

There was a classroom to my right. If I could just slip in, sit down, pretend I had been there the whole time-

I turned too quickly and walked straight into someone.

“Oh-”

The guy I bumped into glared at me like I had stolen one of his organs with our crash.

“Watch where you’re going!”

Right.

“Sorry,” I said quickly, already stepping back.

That route was compromised so I turned to make a detour… and unfortunately met Mabel’s eyes.

Recognition hit her face like a switch being flipped.

“Well,” she said slowly, her lips curving into something that wasn’t a smile, “look who it is.”

My stomach dropped, and that was all it took.

Heads turned, conversations shifted, and attention locked. And just like that, I was the center again.

Nathan stepped forward, his expression easy, almost amused, like we were about to have a friendly conversation instead of whatever this was.

“Daisy,” he said, like my name was something pleasant. “My own Doyanne.”

I didn’t respond.

“You’re quite the piece, you know,” he continued casually, “’cause you’re not the only one who likes me. But you’re definitely the only one bold enough to… act on it… like that.”

A few laughs followed. My heart started to race. My embarrassment started to rise again.

“Honestly,” he added with a small shrug, “I don’t even dislike you for it. It was just a joke. Harmless.”

My expression switched now, and I stared at him with glaring shock… Because he meant it.

That was the problem.

He wasn’t pretending. He wasn’t trying to be cruel. He genuinely thought it had been nothing. Harmless.

“I’d like to go to my class now,” I said, keeping my voice steady.

No drama. Best decision.

I stepped to the side, and let his axis but Mabel stepped with me, blocking my path.

“Not so fast.”
