Chapter 15
Not me.
Not anyone.
Just like I hadn’t trusted him.
A sharp crack split through the air.
One of my men dropped.
Gunfire.
“Contact!”
More shots rang out from the far side of the wreckage as figures emerged through the smoke-armed, advancing, firing with precision.
Volkov’s men.
I drew my weapon instantly and fired.
One shot-clean. A man went down.
Second-headshot.
Third-center mass.
They kept coming.
More than I had accounted for.
Bullets struck metal around us, sparks flying as my men returned fire, shifting into defensive positions.
They had planned this.
Used my trap and turned it
I moved forward two steps, firing again-another body dropped, then another-but it wasn’t enough.
Too many.
“Fall back!” I ordered sharply.
The gunshots kept breaking through anyway, sharp, violent and real.
I stayed there for a few seconds. Or minutes. Or an entire lifetime- I genuinely couldn’t tell.
Then slowly, the noise started thinning. Not gone.
Just… less.
I cracked one eye open. Then the other before lowering my hands.
The world felt… wrong.
Quieter.
I leaned forward slightly and peeked past the crates. Smoke drifted through the air and men moved in the distance.
But something had shifted.
My eyes tracked the movement of Adrian’s men toward the road. Toward the cars.
My stomach dropped.
