Chloe looked at Eugene for a moment.
There were too many things she wanted to say.
In the end, she only whispered, "You first."
"All right."
Eugene pulled her gently into his arms and lowered his voice.
"Wife, Robert is ours."
Chloe's breath caught.
Eugene held her a little tighter, afraid the news would overwhelm her.
"We've confirmed everything. Robert is the child we had six years ago."
Chloe froze completely.
"What?"
Eugene looked into her eyes.
"I'm sorry. The man from that night six years ago was me."
For a long moment, Chloe could not speak.
The man she had never been able to identify...
The father of Robert...
It had been Eugene all along.
Joy surged through her so fiercely that she almost could not stand it.
This was more than excitement.
It felt as if all the regrets from the past six years had suddenly found an answer.
Eugene touched her face gently.
"Now tell me. What did you want to say?"
Chloe was still stunned.
For a few seconds, she almost forgot how to speak.
Then she took his hand and placed it over her lower abdomen.
"I'm pregnant."
Her voice was soft, but every word reached Eugene clearly.
Eugene went still.
He did not need to ask when.
He already knew.
Happiness, shock, and relief struck him all at once.
For a moment, he could only hold her tightly.
"Wife, thank you."
Chloe's eyes reddened.
"I..."
Eugene's voice grew hoarse.
"I want to kiss you a thousand times. Ten thousand times. Even that still wouldn't be enough."
Chloe nearly cried.
Before she could say more, Eugene held her hand again.
"But before that, there's something we need to finish."
He looked at her gently.
"Come with me. Let's end the past properly."
Chloe paused.
Then Eugene led her out.
By the shore, Vincent had already been restrained.
Landon had clearly landed a punch on him.
He looked disheveled and defeated as he sat on the ground.
But when Vincent saw Robert, he still smiled.
"You should be calling me Dad."
Robert did not even look shaken.
His fingers moved across the keyboard as he answered calmly, "Unfortunately for you, my dad is Eugene."
"Not someone like you."
Robert had already rewritten the island's system.
Because of that, Eugene's people had landed on the island without alerting Vincent's men.
Then again, how many people did Vincent still have?
Some had left.
Some had scattered.
And the few who remained could no longer change anything.
Vincent had not expected to fall to Eugene.
He had expected it even less to be because of this child.
Looking at Robert's face, he saw traces of Eugene in him.
Vincent laughed softly.
So he had lost.
And far faster than he had imagined.
Footsteps approached.
Vincent raised his eyes.
Eugene was walking toward him with Chloe's hand in his.
Chloe had already changed out of the wedding dress.
When Vincent saw their joined hands, his smile turned strange.
"Chloe, you promised to marry me."
Eugene stopped in front of him.
His voice was calm.
