Even though she knew it was pointless, Rebecca couldn't help rambling.
But after she finished, Vance still hadn't moved.
"Why aren't you leaving?" she urged.
In the silent classroom, she suddenly heard a sharp intake of breath. She thought she had misheard and listened again.
It was real, coming from Vance. In the faint moonlight, something seemed to be glistening on his cheeks.
"Are you crying?" She was stunned. "Why are you crying?"
No one answered her.
She reached out to touch his face but felt nothing—her fingers passed through like mist. Only the bracelet on her wrist shimmered in the dark.
"Because of the bad test score? It's okay. Your foundation is solid. If you study seriously, you'll do great on the next exam.
"Or... is it because the teacher scolded you? I know you're proud and have never been criticized before. But she didn't say anything too harsh. She genuinely cares about you and tries to understand you.
"So, he could cry, too? And dropping outside the top 50? That's ridiculous. Would he have an entirely different life in that world? It's possible."
Everyone had their own path in their own world. Vance could live an ordinary life or even a messed-up one. That had nothing to do with her.
Why did she keep entering these dreams, seeing everything, and getting involved? And even when she got involved, she could do nothing except watch him change.
"What's the point?" She wondered when she would enter the dream again.
Winter was coming, followed by the winter break and then the final semester of high school.
