Verity:
"Anyway, I’ll be heading out for a movie night with some friends," Theodore said after watching me blush before he walked away.
At the same time, I returned to my room and worked on some files before planning to check if Jenna had woken up.
Around five, I walked out wearing a white frilled dress and headed toward the guest wing.
I had barely entered the wing when I saw Jenna coming out of her room.
She gave me a very gentle smile, and I nodded at her.
With a gesture of my hand, I motioned for Jenna to step aside beside her door.
"Jenna, remember you told me that you spoke to that stranger about my phone being with Alpha King Ragnar?" I asked.
She nodded and immediately rushed to hold my hands.
"You said you might know who it is," she reminded me, and once again, I nodded.
"It’s just a hunch, okay? But I have a few questions for you first, and I want you to be very honest with me about them," I said, watching her nod in understanding.
"How did you meet him?" I asked.
She didn’t even hesitate before answering.
"At a masquerade party."
"Okay, and how did you get to the masquerade party? I mean, who took you there? There’s no way you went alone. You’re new here. Unless your friends—"
I was rambling, trying to make sense of it out loud, when she interrupted me.
"Gigi."
The name itself stunned me.
We just stared at each other before Jenna started telling me how Gigi had promised to help her with Theodore.
Gigi had been behind the idea of taking her to the masquerade and had told her that Theodore would be there wearing a mask.
It had all been Gigi.
As Jenna kept talking, everything started to make sense.
I hadn’t just put two and two together. I had hit the mark on my first try.
"And did you speak with her about the man?" I asked.
Jenna shook her head, then gave a faint nod.
"I did," she uttered. "I told her that I left with a guy, Theodore, and she said, ’Oh, I didn’t know. You were so drunk, you didn’t even tell me, and you left.’ But honestly, I remember she was the one who told me he was sitting at the counter. Then she said she hadn’t, so I thought maybe I’d imagined it because I was drunk."
Her words came out in a jumbled mess, and to be honest, I felt bad for her.
"Oh, Jenna," I said with a sigh, shaking my head.
The way she looked at me, I could already tell she understood.
Whatever I was about to tell her next was going to leave her stunned.
"What?" she asked, her lips already quivering.
"You know, you should never trust someone when your instincts tell you not to," I said, reminding her that Gigi had ignored her in the beginning.
Jenna had told me everything from the start, including how Gigi had suddenly started paying attention to her.
"Have you ever met Oliver?" I asked.
She zoned out for a moment, then nodded.
