Theodore:
There was such urgency in his voice that it felt as though I had to call Jaguar that very second, or it would somehow be too late.
So I did.
I called him.
No answer.
"Text him," Ragnar pleaded. "Text him."
I had never seen Ragnar like this.
I’d never seen him in so much pain.
It was my first time witnessing him like this, and goosebumps covered my skin.
"Tell him I’m having a heart attack," Ragnar ordered.
The desperation in his voice made my stomach twist.
I immediately sent the text before turning back to him.
He lay on the bed, squirming in pain, grunting through clenched teeth, his fists tightly balled.
Then, little by little, he started to relax.
"I’m calling an ambulance," I said, realising we had already wasted too much time.
Once again, he grabbed my hand and slowly shook his head.
"It’s not a heart attack," he murmured.
That only confused me even more.
Was that why he wouldn’t let me take him to the hospital?
"I—I don’t know. Maybe I’ll get checked in the morning," he mumbled, sounding completely uncertain.
At least his condition seemed to be improving.
"Brother, you scared me," I admitted as I slowly sat on the edge of the bed.
He gave me the faintest smile.
Then he lifted his hand and lightly tapped my cheek.
"You idiot," he muttered. "I’m fine. You know this happens to me sometimes."
He was lying.
It had never been this bad before.
"You need to get every test done," I insisted. "Your heart might seem fine now, but what if—"
I couldn’t finish the sentence.
I didn’t even want to say the words out loud.
It had looked exactly like a heart attack.
Even if he seemed better now, I wasn’t taking that chance.
I stood up and dialled the hospital.
"Send an ambulance to the Stone Mansion immediately."
I wasn’t going to listen to him anymore.
This wasn’t just pain that had come out of nowhere.
It was something serious.
The minute I connected the call, I rushed outside to let Gigi know what was going on.
She was sitting on the living room couch, hugging herself and rocking back and forth.
"It’s all my fault. It’s all my fault. I put him under too much stress," she sobbed hysterically, her words barely intelligible.
"Gigi. Gigi, listen to me," I called, rushing to the other side of the couch to get her attention.
She looked up, and our eyes met. She had cried herself into a bad state in only five minutes.
"The ambulance is on the way," I told her, watching her eyes widen even more.
"Why? Why is the ambulance coming? Is he okay?" she cried, jumping to her feet and clutching her hands together.
I paused, trying to control my breathing.
As for Gigi, the doctors told me she had passed out due to the extreme stress.
And I knew the minute she woke up, she would panic all over again.
I wondered if I should call her parents, but it was late at night, and they would only worry.
So I decided not to.
At the same time, I couldn’t stop thinking about the car that had stopped outside our home.
Had I really seen it clearly?
Maybe I was just too stressed out.
I wasn’t sure.
I decided to check on the house.
So I called Mrs. Bundy.
"Hello?" she answered.
She sounded a little nervous.
Of course she did. Ragnar was in the hospital, and everyone was worried he had suffered a heart attack.
"How is Ragnar?" she asked almost immediately.
"The doctors are checking on him, but—" I paused, anxiously scratching the back of my neck. "Is Jenna okay? I mean, is she at home?"
"Why wouldn’t she be? She’s fine," she replied. "She stepped out briefly to get some notes from a friend, but she made it back in time. Don’t worry."
As she spoke, I sighed.
I didn’t want another problem unfolding right under our noses.
Everything was falling apart, and honestly, I’d lived a very carefree life.
I’d never had this kind of responsibility before.
Usually, Jaguar took care of things like this.
So now that Jaguar was so distracted, wherever he was, and it was taking him so long to get back, the responsibility had fallen on me, and I couldn’t stop worrying about Ragnar.
