"What, just because you can't force Noah to love Lillian, you assume I'm the one pulling the strings?
Don't forget, when Lillian went to prison, Noah was only three. I raised him. I took time off work to play with him, dropped him off at school, stayed by his side when he was sick, and sang him to sleep every night.
For two full years, I treated him like my own flesh and blood. A three-year-old might not understand much, but a five-year-old isn't stupid.
Kids know who loves them. Do I really need to teach you that? You think far too low of me.
I would never badmouth Lillian in front of him. You can go ask him yourselves right now!"
They were severely underestimating her.
She had poured her heart and soul into that boy specifically to keep her hands clean on the surface. She made sure everything looked flawless, especially in front of a child. She wouldn't resort to sloppy tactics. At the very least, things have to look acceptable on the surface.
"Haven't you done enough?" Sebastian retorted. "Don't forget what you did right after Lillian got out. When she tried to get close to Noah, you made sure every single one of his friends knew she was an ex-con. That's exactly when he started rejecting her. He thinks she's a murderer who makes him a laughingstock. Your viciousness is beyond imagination."
"I'm vicious? Sebastian, we're cut from the same cloth. We could have just kept up the charade, but you insisted on ripping the band-aid off. What's the point now? Look, I'm busy. If neither of you has anything else to say, stop wasting my time. My so-called husband despises me, my career is tanking—I've got nothing left. If you two insist on pushing me into a corner, don't blame me when I make things incredibly ugly for everyone. I've got nothing to lose, but you both have plenty on the line."
With a cold smirk, Bella turned on her heel and headed for the door.
Out in the hallway, Bella called her divorce lawyer to establish her absolute bottom line.
Even a third of his assets amounted to billions of dollars. And if she dragged the proceedings out, she could get even more. Sebastian's wealth grew by the minute, and as long as they were legally married, she was entitled to a cut.
Back in the conference room, Sebastian sat down, forcibly smoothing his expression.
Brandon poured him a glass of water. "Willing to sacrifice half your fortune just to get a divorce. I have to admit, you really must be in love with my sister."
