"Brandon, don't push us too far!"
Brandon scoffed coldly. No matter how harsh Bella's words were, he simply countered with a chilling retort. "So, what exactly caused Ms. Ward to endure that beating? Wasn't it because she deserved it? Because she brought it upon herself? My mother was driven mad because of her—the other woman. And what was the result? My mom was living perfectly fine in this house, but the moment you two arrived, she was sent to St. Jude’s Psychiatric Center. And even if you ignored her entirely, there were plenty of people at the facility to take proper care of her. But what did she do? You two should know exactly what happened. Do I really need to spell it out?"
Brandon indeed didn't need to say another word. At this point, how could Bella not know that for two years, her mother had gone to the psychiatric center every Monday to torment that poor woman?
Back then, that madwoman was completely at her mother's mercy. After all, Bella knew exactly how deeply her mother envied and despised Eleanor Lancaster.
Eleanor Lancaster truly had a blessed life—born into high society as a wealthy heiress. Even though she wasn't from Northwyn, she easily married into a top-tier family like the Mercers. After joining the family, she gave birth to two sons in succession, and finally, a daughter. Three children, all deeply adored by the old Mrs. Mercer. How much effort had Sabrina spent just to carve out a path for herself in that situation? Eleanor had been a massive obstacle, and Sabrina had exerted unimaginable effort to remove her.
Of course, she definitely had Martin to thank for that. If he hadn't struck Eleanor with that vase, Eleanor would have occupied that position for the rest of her life, and Sabrina would have never had a chance.
Unfortunately, she had miscalculated. Even though Eleanor had become completely unhinged, she had still blocked Sabrina's path for so many years.
How could she not hate her? With such intense hatred, once she finally caught an opportunity, how could she not vent her frustrations? Even torturing Eleanor to death wouldn't have been enough to satisfy her rage.
But she never expected that Lillian would actually take Eleanor out of the facility after being released from prison.
Back then, she assumed Lillian would be left with absolutely nothing upon her release. If Lillian couldn't even fend for herself, how could she possibly have the means to care for Eleanor?
But with Lillian wielding so much power now, would she actually let them inside?
Realizing this, Sabrina glanced at Bella.
Bella relented. "Dad, if you can guarantee Mom's safety, then I have nothing more to say about the bodyguards."
Martin figured it was best to avoid extra trouble. Even if he couldn't fully protect her, someone on Lillian's side would step in to stop things before it went too far; her life certainly wouldn't be in danger.
So, he immediately agreed. "Of course, that's not a problem. I promise I will absolutely protect Sabrina. She is my wife; how could I bear to let her suffer?"
