Meanwhile, Sabrina felt increasingly uneasy. Though terrified, she was safe at home where no one could hurt her.
She sneaked over to the study and pressed her ear tightly against the door, but she heard absolutely nothing.
The soundproofing was clearly top-tier, much better than the other rooms.
Before she could even pull away, the door swung open.
She froze, caught red-handed in her eavesdropping posture.
Anyone could tell exactly what she was doing.
Beatrice stared at her and shook her head in disgust. "Martin, if my dear friend woke up and saw this, she'd die of sheer anger."
Martin felt a deep flush of humiliation. She was embarrassing him in front of a guest.
Sabrina's stunt was incredibly shameful.
Martin wished the ground would swallow him whole.
Brandon just chuckled. "Hear anything interesting, Sabrina? You're so curious, you should have just come inside."
Colin scowled. "Doesn't it hurt anymore?"
Sabrina was mortified. She only wanted to know what the Mercer men and this old woman were plotting behind closed doors.
Her intuition told her it involved Lillian.
But she had no idea what it actually was.
Seeing her obvious desperation, Beatrice spoke bluntly. "So you're the mistress. You finally forced your way in and got what you wanted.
"Why can't you just behave?
"Are you not used to living comfortably?
"Let me tell you, you might have run wild while my dear friend was out of the picture these past couple of years.
Humiliated, Sabrina looked to Martin for help, but he deliberately avoided her gaze.
What was going on?
After delivering her warning, Beatrice prepared to leave.
Brandon and Colin walked her out, while Martin muttered a quick goodbye before Sabrina grabbed his arm.
Once the others were out of sight, Sabrina threw herself into Martin's arms. "Martin... how could you let her bully me like that without saying a word?"
Martin was exhausted, frustrated, and overwhelmed with problems.
Seeing Sabrina acting like this only annoyed him. "You crossed the line. I haven't even settled the score with you for sending Lillian to jail, and now you went after Eleanor again.
"Sabrina, how could you do this?"
Sabrina froze. He was furious. It was clear he was deeply disappointed in her actions.
