Sabrina Ward's eyes fluttered open, landing immediately on the unfamiliar face of a doctor. She let out a guttural scream, but the moment the sound left her lips, she gagged. Something was lodged in her throat, turning her face a deep, suffocating red.
"What's wrong with her?" Martin Mercer yelled in a blind panic. "Is there something wrong with your Phoenix-7 Recovery Serum? Are you trying to kill her? What exactly did you inject into her?"
Ethan Hayes glanced sideways at Leonard Prescott. Deep down, he wondered if the young master had secretly tampered with the cutting-edge bio-tech.
Leonard shot him a predatory glare, instantly obliterating Ethan's stray thoughts.
Ethan lowered his head, equally perplexed. "Doctor, what's going on here?"
The doctor didn't even have time to worry about the blood oozing from Sabrina's vein where he had just yanked the syringe out. He rushed forward to pry her jaws apart.
"Stop yelling," the doctor snapped at Martin. "She's choking on something."
"Choking?" Martin stammered. "Choking on what?"
The doctor rolled his eyes. Who in their right mind would waste such an insanely expensive, cutting-edge toxin on a worthless old woman? There were a million free ways to get rid of her.
Grabbing a pair of medical forceps, the doctor reached straight into Sabrina's throat and extracted the obstruction.
Once it was out, everyone got a clear look. The object that had nearly suffocated Sabrina was one of her own molars.
It was a tooth Lillian Mercer had violently knocked loose. In her agitated state upon waking, Sabrina had accidentally swallowed it, and it had gotten lodged in her windpipe.
A collective eye-roll swept through the room, while Martin let out a heavy sigh of relief.
However, during those few minutes of chaos, something miraculous happened. The severe, swollen mess of purple and blue bruises on Sabrina's face was visibly deflating.
Martin's heart skipped a beat. How could such miraculous medicine exist in this world?
He turned to look at Leonard again, but the somber, freezing aura rolling off the younger man made Martin instinctively avert his gaze in fear.
Ethan had mentioned earlier that a single vial of the Phoenix-7 Recovery Serum cost enough to buy a man's life!
Seeing the effects firsthand...
The doctor packed up his medical kit and stepped away.
Leonard cast a look of utter disgust at the older couple. Anxious to check on Lillian, he gave Ethan a brief set of instructions. "Let them leave this afternoon. Confiscate their phones now, and return them when they're allowed to go."
Ethan nodded firmly. "Understood."
With a flick of Ethan's chin, a group of imposing bodyguards surged forward.
Brandon Mercer, having overheard Leonard's orders, didn't wait for the guards to lay hands on him. He pulled his phone from his pocket and handed it over voluntarily.
Ethan unlocked it and did a quick sweep, confirming no videos or audio recordings of the brutal scene had been taken.
Colin Mercer followed his brother's lead, surrendering his phone as well. He naturally underwent the same inspection.
Ethan had zero interest in prying into their private lives. He only cared about wiping any potential evidence.
As for Martin, he didn't offer his device willingly, but a bodyguard stepped up and efficiently confiscated it from his pocket.
