Sabrina wailed like a slaughtered animal. Martin's heart pounded in sheer terror, but he didn't dare step forward to protect her.
If it were over anything else, he might have rushed in. But Lillian was avenging her abused mother. In the face of that righteous fury, Martin lacked the courage to intervene.
Furthermore, his two sons were flanking him. Even if they didn't join Lillian in the beating, they would certainly physically block him if he tried to save Sabrina. By doing nothing, he was essentially helping them.
Sabrina, blinded by pain, didn't grasp the politics of the moment and continued to scream for Martin to save her. But the louder she shrieked, the harder Lillian hit her, determined to beat the energy right out of her lungs.
Brandon and Colin watched Sabrina's face turn into a bloody mess. They felt a twinge of concern—if Lillian accidentally killed her, the legal fallout would be disastrous. But after exchanging a sharp glance, neither spoke up to stop it. They couldn't. Lillian was avenging their mother; stepping in would make them look like traitors. If anything, they should be the ones kicking Sabrina.
Behind Lillian, Eleanor bounced on her toes, clapping her hands in pure excitement. "Beating the bad woman! Beating the bad woman!"
Brandon glanced over at Leonard Prescott. Leonard ignored the carnage entirely, casually raising a single hand. Several imposing bodyguards immediately stepped forward, forming a tight protective perimeter. They weren't there to break up the fight; they were there to protect Lillian just in case someone foolishly charged in and tried to hurt her while saving Sabrina.
Brandon panicked. "She deserves to die, but Lillian has already been to prison once! We can't let her—"
Prison?
The Mercer family had played a significant role in sending Lillian to prison the first time. At the mere mention of it, the cold, lethal intent in Leonard's eyes deepened considerably.
