Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 1138

Although Leonard didn't walk Lillian to the door every day, he always watched the security monitors to ensure she safely left the gates of Halfridge Villas. Naturally, he had seen everything that transpired outside.

He reached out, taking Lillian’s hand, and gently tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "Don't overthink it. Noah has been with the elder Blakes for a while now. If he’s changed for the better, then the bond between mother and son isn't entirely broken. In the future, I'll treat him as my own. I won't put you in a difficult position."

Leonard's words were entirely for her sake.

But Lillian only offered a silent shake of her head.

"What is it?" he asked softly.

"With Sebastian's genes, he shouldn't have had a child in the first place," Lillian replied. "Rome wasn't built in a day. It's hard to teach a kid to be good, but effortless to teach them to be bad."

She knew exactly what was going on with Noah.

Blood ties meant absolutely nothing to that boy.

She had learned that lesson the hard way. She had to admit, Bella had certainly put in a staggering amount of effort to corrupt him.

But none of that mattered anymore.

If he truly were a good kid, he would have remembered the deep maternal love they once shared and the lessons she had imparted. Even with Bella's malicious brainwashing, the upstanding influence of his grandparents should have been enough to turn him around.

Yet, Old Mr. Blake and Old Mrs. Blake had eventually hardened their hearts, sending him off to be hidden away and educated abroad. It was clear that even they couldn't reach him.

Ultimately, it came down to his genetics.

Leonard gazed at her, his eyes full of comforting warmth. He knew that, no matter how disappointed she was or how ruthlessly she spoke, the boy was still her flesh and blood. Seeing her child act this way would always bring a pang of heartache.

He couldn't bear to see her in pain.

Given their current physical conditions, they weren't quite ready to have a child of their own. Otherwise, he would have made sure to raise a sweet, sensible kid to soothe the wounds that ungrateful boy had inflicted on her heart.

Her mind was fractured, her actions largely out of her control, but the deep-seated elegance of her upbringing still shone through in fleeting moments.

In a way, Lillian felt her mentally ill mother was leaps and bounds better than her perfectly sane son.

Noah loved to call her a murderer, didn't he?

Well, today, he’d find out that besides a murderer for a mother, he also had a lunatic for a grandmother.

He'd probably be begging his grandparents to send him back abroad by the end of the day.

Lillian didn't overthink it. They were already at her door. She might as well see them.

When Sebastian stepped out of the car with his son, Lillian was nowhere to be found.

Only Ethan Hayes stood waiting for them.
