"Look at the reputation of the Mercer family out there right now! It’s completely ruined, and it’s all on you. Grandma's judgment was spot on from the very beginning.
"You claimed you were willing to accept any punishment, yet you absolutely refuse to let go of the shares you scammed. What, do you think the Mercers are easy targets? You think you can just hoard our equity and refuse to cough it up?
"Let me make this crystal clear: no way in hell! It's not going to be that simple. If you don't hand over those shares, we will simply initiate divorce proceedings and claw them back legally."
Hearing the word "divorce," Sabrina froze, her entire world grinding to a halt.
Divorce?
And reclaim the shares?
Impossible!
Divorce was absolutely out of the question.
Back in her prime, it had been relatively easy to use her charm to reel in a wealthy benefactor.
But now? She was getting older, her youthful beauty fading. What competitive edge did she have left?
Furthermore, she had no liquid assets to her name. The only things that gave her any leverage or value were her title as Mrs. Mercer and the shares sitting in her daughter's portfolio.
She would never, under any circumstances, agree to a divorce.
The mother and daughter exchanged a tense glance. Bella's face was twisted in sheer fury, while Sabrina was utterly paralyzed, clueless as to her next move.
Bella ground her teeth, glaring venomously at the two brothers.
These two were pushing too far. They weren't even bothering to hide their disgust anymore, recklessly throwing wild accusations right to her face.
"Brandon, watch your damn mouth. Lillian is the one who went to prison. Lillian is the one who hurt Grandma. If you want to accuse me of being the mastermind, you'd better produce some hard evidence.
"Without proof, tossing out baseless accusations like that is reckless. Aren't you afraid I'll sue you for slander?"
Watching the two sides violently clash with absolutely no resolution in sight, Martin felt a blinding headache pulse behind his temples.
After unleashing his fury, Martin turned his glare onto Sabrina, pointing a trembling finger at her. "And you. When the scandal broke, you collapsed in front of me, crying that you would accept any punishment no matter what.
"And the reality? All we ask is for you to return the shares that rightfully belonged to Lillian in the first place, and you completely refuse.
"All these years... I severely misjudged you.
"Your supposedly humble, unambitious nature—how did it suddenly evaporate?
"Did you change overnight, or did I just never truly see you for who you are?"
Martin's words were utterly devastating.
Sabrina's heart hammered in panic. If she didn't handle this flawlessly, her marriage was as good as dead.
She knew deep down that when pushed to the absolute limit, the Mercer men prioritized profit over affection.
If Martin could ruthlessly banish his own biological daughter from the house, what did a second wife mean to him?
