Chapter 66
Emily’s POV
I was having a strange dream. I was surrounded by darkness, but the smells and sounds made me feel like I was in
a clinic.
I could smell the sharp scent of alcohol. Something was beeping–a steady sound that matched the rhythm of my
heart.
I wanted to get away from that sound; I hated it. With every beep, I drifted further away, sinking deeper and leeper into the dark.
“Hello, Emily.”
A huge white wolf walked out of the shadows. She was glowing with a soft light. Her golden eyes looked into mine.
reached out and touched the white moon on her forehead.
“Nyx,” I whispered.
“How do I look?” she asked.
“Powerful,” I said. “You are bigger than any wolf I have ever seen.”
“Because I am,” she said with pride. She turned to leave. “You are not finished yet, Emily. Keep searching.”
I went deeper into my mind. I walked for what felt like forever until I felt a spark. I spun around, waiting for the park to flash again, and then I ran. I ran deep into my soul until I finally found it.
A glowing golden sphere, shining as bright as the sun. As I moved closer, I saw the sphere pulsing. But it wasn’t lone. It was wrapped in eight rings, and each ring had glowing words burning on it.
With every step, I felt my heart beating in time with the sphere.
“Your time has come.”
The voice echoed around me, but I couldn’t tell where it came from. I looked everywhere, but I was completely
lone.
“Who is there?” I asked, stepping closer to Nyx for protection.
“You should not fear her,” Nyx whispered, gently nudging my hand with her nose to calm me.
“Her?” I repeated.
Suddenly, the light flared–too bright, too pure. I covered my eyes. When I looked again, a woman was there.
“Moon Goddess?” I whispered, unable to believe it.
Only the High Priestesses were supposed to see her in their dreams, or perhaps a wolf sees her in the moment of death.
5:55 pm
“Am I dead?” I asked.softly.
“No, Emily, you are not dead.” Her voice was pure peace. It sounded like a melody for my soul.
“What is this?” I asked, pointing toward the golden sphere and the rings.
“This is your power,” her voice echoed. “Not all of it… not yet.”
As I stepped closer, the symbols on the rings began to move.
They weren’t just marks anymore. They were words.
I didn’t just see them; I felt them.
A sudden warmth brushed against my skin, like sunlight on a cold day Healing. A soft golden light flickered across the first ring. For a second, I felt a strange power in my hands. I felt the ability to mend what was broken and
ake the pain away.
Then, the second ring pulsed.
This light was sharper. It was stronger. Control. I felt a chill as I realized what it was–the power to slip into someone’s mind. To bend their will until they did exactly what I wanted.
I stepped back instinctively. My heart hammered against my ribs. That power felt dangerous. It felt wrong.
But before I could turn away, a third ring ignited.
This one felt different. It was solid and unbreakable. An invisible force pressed outward from the gold, like a wall hat could never be moved. Protection. A shield that could stop anything in the world.
My heart was racing now.
Three rings. Three ancient powers.
And there were five more rings still hidden. Waiting. Locked power.”
“My power?”
“Yes. The power of seven generations flows through you. It belongs to every Luna who came before you in your
loodline.”
“I… I didn’t know there was anyone besides my mother.”
The Moon Goddess smiled. “An amazing destiny has been chosen for you, and it is about to begin.”
“What is beginning?”
“The trials, Emily. You must prove if you are worthy of the power in your blood. You must decide if you will become the Eighth Luna–the one to close the circle. But remember… only a virgin can pass these trials. Only the pure can unlock the full strength of the Eight Lunas.”
My heart stopped.
-A virgini.
The word echoed in my mind, the rogue had… if he had touched me while I was unconscious… then everything was over. I would fail. I would die.
I thought about the dark cell. I thought about the rogue’s cold hands and his cruel laughter. I remembered waking up in pain, covered in bruises.
Wait. A small spark of hope flared in my chest. If the Goddess was telling me this now, if she was calling me to the rials… that meant I still had my purity.
The rogue didn’t touch me, I realized. He had beaten me, he had broken my bones, but he hadn’t taken that from ne. I was still whole.
“But why now?” I asked. “Why me?”
Her expression turned sad. “Because of the sacrifice. A sacrifice was made, and it has started the cycle.”
A cold shiver ran down my spine. My blood turned to ice. “What sacrifice?” I gasped, my voice shaking. “What are
you talking about? Who was sacrificed?”
The Goddess didn’t answer. She began to fade into the light, her eyes full of secrets.
“You will understand when the time is right,” her voice echoed from everywhere. “When you truly believe in yourself, your power will wake up. But for now… open your heart. Open your eyes. Wake up.”
Everything vanished.
I opened my eyes and found myself lying in the darkness. I thought I was alone again. Always alone.
“You will never be alone, Emily. I am here, watching over you, always. Believe in yourself. You are stronger than
you think.”
The Moon Goddess’s voice faded away, and the sounds of the forest came to my ears.
I realized I was crying. I reached up to wipe my face, but someone was already doing it for me. A warm palm gently brushed the tears from my cheeks.
I turned my head and saw Nathan. His eyes were full of so many feelings: joy, pain, and a deep sadness. His hand rembled against my skin. He looked at me like he didn’t believe I was real.
“You came back to me,” he whispered. His voice sounded broken. “I waited for you for so long.”
I was so confused. Why was he here? Why was he looking at me with so much love? He was supposed to be with Stella.
“You finished the ceremony… didn’t you?” I asked. My voice was very weak.
