Just as they were getting ready for bed, Steve's phone began to ring incessantly. Picking up the call, his brows slowly pulled together into a tight knot as he listened to the report. A critical case in Cloudville had encountered a massive crisis, and the opposing party was demanding that Steve personally handle the negotiations. After hanging up, Steve immediately fired up his laptop in the dead of night and pulled up the case files. As he meticulously reviewed the details, his expression grew increasingly grim. It was an exceptionally thorny case involving high-level government ties. The junior lawyers at his firm were completely out of their depth. He had to go to Cloudville himself.
But... he turned to look at Sylvia, who was sleeping soundly on the bed. Emmy's chilling warning still echoed in his ears, and that horrifying nightmare loomed like a dark cloud over his heart. He simply did not dare leave her alone in the Capital. Yet the situation in Cloudville was dangerously volatile. If he didn't intervene, his entire legal team would be destroyed.
Early the next morning, Steve was forced to pack his bags. Before heading to the airport, he drove Sylvia to her office building. The moment they stepped inside, he summoned her assistant, Sophia.
"Sophia," Steve ordered, his expression dead serious. "While I'm away for the next few days, you are not to leave Ms. Moore's side. Aside from going to the restroom, whether she's in a meeting or eating lunch, you must keep an eye on her at all times. Do you understand?"
Intimidated by his cold, commanding aura, Sophia nodded fiercely. "Don't worry, Mr. Michell. I'll watch over her!"
Even after giving the assistant strict orders, Steve's anxiety refused to settle. He followed Sylvia into her executive office and shut the door behind them. Stepping up to her desk, he leaned his weight on his hands and studied her intently.
"Sylvia, promise me you won't overthink things while I'm gone. No running off either. You're not allowed to go anywhere except work and home." Reaching out, he gently brushed her cheek. "As soon as I sort out the mess in Cloudville, I'll come straight back. And the moment I return, we'll go get our license."
