Sylvia was the first to look away, clearing her throat to make her voice sound as composed as it did during her morning corporate meetings. "About last night... I drank too much and don't remember a thing. We are both adults, and it was just an accident. Once we walk out that door, we pretend nothing happened, and neither of us ever brings it up again."
Steve still had a trace of sleepiness in his eyes, but at her words, his lazy demeanor vanished instantly. He stared at her cold expression for a few seconds before letting out a sudden, mocking laugh. Slowly sitting up straighter, he pressed his tongue against his back teeth and looked her up and down with the predatory gaze of a wolf. "Pretend nothing happened? Sylvia, are you trying to use me and just run away? Do you really think you can just dictate that it never happened?"
Her eyes remained frosty, but the faint redness at the tips of her ears betrayed her inner panic. "Then what do you want?" she asked through gritted teeth. "Do you expect me to take responsibility?"
Steve raised an eyebrow, his gaze sweeping over her long, straight legs hidden beneath his shirt, and a smirk lifted one corner of his mouth. "That would not be the worst idea."
Sylvia choked on her words, her face instantly burning bright red. "In your dreams!"
The amusement slowly faded from Steve's lips. He dropped his casual attitude, taking on a rare expression of serious gravity. "Do you have any idea how dangerous last night was? If you had not run into me at a place like that, do you know what would have happened to you?"
Her breath hitched as the malicious eyes of those male classmates from the night before flashed through her mind.
Steve stared at her for a few long seconds before letting out a low chuckle. The sound was muffled, vibrating from deep within his chest, but it held absolutely no joy, carrying instead a hint of grinding teeth. He took another step forward. "Then why did you not say that when you were clinging to me last night? Why did you not say it when you were wrapping yourself around me, crying about how hot you felt?"
Sylvia's face flushed all the way to the base of her neck. Her memories of the previous night were completely blank, but hearing him describe it so bluntly sent a crushing wave of humiliation over her. She snapped her head up, glaring at him with red rimmed eyes as her voice trembled. "I told you, I do not remember!"
Steve took another menacing step forward. Backed into a corner, Sylvia felt her lower back hit the wall. "You do not remember?" Steve lowered his head slightly, his warm breath fanning across her face. "Then how are you going to explain all that soreness and those marks on your body to yourself?" His long fingers pointed to his own neck, which bore several very clear, intimate hickeys. "And what about these marks on my neck... You held onto me and bit them into my skin, one by one."
