Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 1707

Sylvia never expected Steve to come all this way just to prove his innocence. Deep down, she already knew he hadn't directly caused her grandfather's death. She just couldn't overcome the mental hurdle. She had always felt that even if he didn't directly kill Arthur, he was the indirect cause of the tragedy. That was why she hated him, despised him, and wished to never see him again for the rest of her life.

Now, staring at the evidence on the table, she found herself more shocked by his motives. He had traveled all the way out to rural Seaview just to clear his name in her heart?

Sylvia didn't say a word. She lowered her head and quickly finished every last bite of her vegetable noodles. Setting down her fork, she picked up the manila envelope and tore it open.

The stack of documents was thick, containing emergency room records, security camera screenshots, and an extensively detailed investigative report. The cruel truth of that day was entirely laid bare before her eyes. However, the contents were vastly different from what she had always been told.

When the Moore family's business empire in the Capital took a massive hit and they were forced to retreat to Seaview, it was never by Steve's order. He had been completely unaware of it the entire time. The whole scheme had been single handedly orchestrated by his mother, Ella.

Sylvia knew full well how domineering, aggressive, and controlling Ella was. Back then, her absurd arranged marriage to Steve had been forced upon him by Ella without his knowledge. At the time, Sylvia had even secretly pitied him, knowing that having a mother like that meant he would never taste true freedom. But what Sylvia admired most was that Steve had refused to accept his fate. He had forcefully broken out of the cage his mother built, clawing his way up in the Capital with his bare hands until he amassed enough power to rival her.

Pulling her thoughts back to the present, Sylvia continued reading. As she neared the end, her pupils contracted violently.

Arthur had collapsed, clutching his chest, desperately gasping for air. Not only did her mother fail to help him up, but she and Harrison actually assumed he was faking a medical emergency. They simply turned around and walked away. They didn't call an ambulance, nor did they ask any neighbors for help. They left an elderly man suffering a massive heart attack completely alone in the freezing courtyard.

It was only much later, when the estate workers returned, that Arthur was found unconscious on the ground. The workers had scrambled to call emergency services and then notified Sylvia. By the time she had frantically rushed to the hospital in Seaview, Arthur was already beyond saving. He closed his eyes forever.

For a whole year, the Moore family had sworn to her that Arthur suffered the fatal heart attack out of pure distress upon learning she had frozen outside the hospital for three hours while begging Steve. Because of their lies, she had pinned all the blame onto Steve, and onto herself.
