Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 1684

A mocking smile pulled at the corners of her lips. "I doubt Mr. Michell would have the stomach for the kind of food I enjoy."

Steve's breath hitched, the fingers resting at his sides curling inward sharply. Her words struck him like a resounding slap to the face. Memories from long ago instantly flooded his mind. Back then, they were still bound together by a marriage certificate, and Sylvia was just the cautious, eager-to-please girl living in the Michell family estate. He remembered coming home from work one day to find her sitting on the sofa, her eyes crinkling with sheer delight as she enjoyed a small cake. She had looked at him with bright, shining eyes, holding up her spoon to ask if he wanted a bite.

What had he said back then? He had stared down at her with undisguised disgust and coldly replied that he didn't need it, claiming that too much sugar made people stupid. For some reason, the image of her smile stiffening and fading away remained painfully vivid in his mind.

Then there was another night he returned late, catching her with a massive portion of spicy crawfish. Her hands were coated in red chili oil, and her eyes were rimmed red, perhaps from the spice, yet she still offered him a taste. He had been so insufferably arrogant back then, ruthlessly piercing her with his words. He had told her that unlike her, he didn't just shove any random garbage into his mouth. From that day onward, Sylvia had never invited him to share a meal again.

Fate certainly had a cruel sense of humor. The girl he had once sneered at and dismissed had now become the untouchable ache in his heart. Now that he was lowering his pride to invite her for a simple meal, all he received was her merciless mockery and rejection. A heavy shadow of remorse flashed through his eyes. He frowned, his Adam's apple bobbing with difficulty as he opened his mouth to speak.

Ding. The elevator arrived at the ground floor lobby, the metallic doors slowly sliding open. Unwilling to linger for even a fraction of a second, Sylvia clicked her heels against the floor and hurried out.

"What else could it be!" Tears pooled in her eyes, swirling but stubbornly refusing to fall. "You deliberately made my friends, and even Mr. Nelson, think you are pursuing me. But I know the truth. I know you look down on me! You are doing all this just to make a fool out of me, just to play your sick little games, exactly like you did at that resort in Fiji!"

At the mention of the resort, Steve's face drained of color, his pupils shrinking in horror.

Sylvia refused to stop, pouring out all the terrifying memories and grievances she had buried deep inside. "You abandoned me on that deserted beach in the middle of nowhere, hiding in the shadows just to laugh at my misery! Yes, I know you ended up getting seriously injured because of me, and you nearly lost your life. I acknowledge the debt I owe you for that!" The corners of her eyes flushed scarlet as a tear finally slipped down her cheek, shattering into the cold night wind. "But you don't have to keep playing tricks on me to get your revenge! I have absolutely nothing left. I am entirely on my own now!" Her voice cracked as she practically screamed at him. "All I want is to focus on building my career in peace. Why won't you just leave me alone!"
