Quincy gave him a firm nod, accepting the declaration of war. He turned, opened the door to his SUV, and drove out of the parking lot. Steve waited until the taillights completely vanished before violently tugging at his tie in frustration. Leaning against his Cullinan, he pulled out his phone and made a call.
"Hey, cousin. How about your favorite cousin sets you up on a date?"
The next day, Sylvia's fever finally broke. Though she was still quite weak, she couldn't stand being confined to a bed for another second and insisted on being discharged. Her doctor clutched her medical chart, desperately trying to reason with her.
"Ms. Moore, this fever was aggressive, brought on by a severely compromised immune system from chronic overwork. I highly recommend you stay for another two days of observation and continue the IV fluids to solidify your recovery. Otherwise, you're at high risk for a relapse."
But Sylvia's mind was completely consumed by the tight deadlines at the Westside Plant, and she absolutely refused to stay. Yet, that very afternoon, while Sylvia was buried under a mountain of paperwork, her attending physician personally arrived at her office with a medical kit to hook her up to an IV drip.
Looking up at the fluid bag hanging above her, a wave of warmth washed over Sylvia's heart. She immediately assumed this was Krystina's thoughtful arrangement, so she didn't ask questions, simply continuing to review her documents while the medicine flowed into her veins. This routine continued for several days. Every afternoon, without fail, the doctor would arrive at the office, set up her IV, and leave once it was done.
Finally, Krystina managed to carve out some free time and came to Agri-Tech Ventures to check on her. Walking in, she gave Sylvia an assessing once-over. "Well, you look a lot better."
Pulling out a chair, Krystina sat down and asked with deep concern, "How are you feeling? Have you been eating on time these past few days?"
Sylvia smiled, capping her pen and stretching her arms. "With a mother hen like you hovering over me, how could I not eat on time? Besides, with the doctor chasing me down at the office every day for my IV fluids, I've been cured for a while now."
Krystina raised an eyebrow in complete astonishment. "The doctor chased you down at the office to give you an IV? Are doctors really that dedicated these days?"
Abriella sighed, her voice laced with exhaustion. "Don't even ask. I'm out of town on a business trip. I took on a really complicated dispute case, and I'll probably be stuck here for a few more days. By the way, how's your health? I couldn't get away, so I asked Quincy to drop by the hospital and help look after you. He's a pretty great guy, isn't he?" Lowering her voice, Abriella asked with a hint of gossip, "So? Have you two made any progress these past few days?"
Sylvia paused. If Abriella was out of town, then she definitely hadn't arranged the doctor. And since she had specifically asked Quincy to take care of her... could it have been Quincy? She hadn't expected the rugged SWAT Captain to be so incredibly attentive and thoughtful. They had been texting quite a bit lately, yet he hadn't breathed a single word about it. A faint ripple of warmth inevitably stirred in Sylvia's heart.
She smiled into the phone and replied casually, "What are you talking about? We just chat occasionally about new agricultural machinery. But everyone's been so busy lately, we haven't talked much."
Abriella sighed on the other end, frustrated by Sylvia's lack of romantic initiative. But she knew she couldn't force a relationship to happen. "Alright, alright, you workaholic," she conceded. "Once things settle down, Christmas will be right around the corner. We'll get all the girls together and celebrate."
After hanging up, Sylvia placed her phone on the desk, lost in thought.
