The fireworks in the sky continued to bloom tirelessly, radiating dazzling streams of light and color, creating an atmosphere that was romantic to the extreme. Andrew looked down at Teresa, who was still shedding tears in his arms, and gently wiped the corners of her eyes with tender care.
"Alright, if you keep crying, your eyes are going to hurt tomorrow." He looked up and waved at James and Emmy. "I am going to take your mother inside to put a warm towel over her eyes. You two stay out here and enjoy yourselves for a bit, but do not stay out too late before heading in to rest."
As soon as Andrew left, Laney had no desire to stick around. With exceptional tact, she waved her hand. "I am heading out too. You two keep the romance going."
The once bustling garden quickly emptied out, leaving only Emmy and James. The surroundings slowly quieted down, leaving only the whistling sound of fireworks shooting into the sky and the faint crackling of the burning sparklers.
Emmy kept her head down, her thumb gently rubbing the ring on her ring finger. She had noticed something unique the moment he slipped it on. The texture did not feel like typical platinum, nor did it have the weighty feel of a diamond ring. It was very light, yet it emitted a hard, smooth metallic sheen. It was pure titanium. Lightweight, hypoallergenic and corrosion resistant, and incredibly durable. Emmy's heart softened immensely. From the material alone, she could see the profound thought this man had put into it.
On the surface, the ring appeared to be a simple, unadorned band. However, when Emmy's fingertip traced the inner band, she discovered it had a concave, curved design. The texture was silky smooth, fitting seamlessly against her skin without biting into it in the slightest. And right at the deepest part of that concave curve, her nail lightly grazed a tiny, textured ridge. Intrigued, Emmy brought the ring closer to her eyes, peering at it under the warm golden candlelight. Engraved on the inside of the ring was a meticulously hand carved leaf, its veins distinctly visible.
Seeing her staring at the inside of the ring, James let out a low chuckle. "You saw it?" He gently rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb, his voice deep and raspy. "I had an ivy leaf carved into the inside of this ring. Other people cannot see it from the outside, but when you wear it, your fingertip can feel it." James lowered his eyes, his deep gaze locking onto her, burning as intensely as a fire. "Ivy means what I want to give you. Eternal protection, and never abandoning you. I want to give you a stable remainder of your life. I want to be the harbor you can rely on, where no matter how fierce the storm is outside, as long as you look back, I will always be right there."
In his heart, he silently replied, thank you, honey, I love you too.
The night breeze was cool, and the scent of flowers filled the air. This delayed proposal was not just the completion of a ceremony, it was the true validation of their love. From a simple paper contract to a lifetime commitment. From their guarded first meeting to their unreserved devotion. Hand in hand, they had weathered the bitter winter of misunderstanding and finally welcomed the warm spring known as family. It was exactly like the ring on her finger, hiding a secret devotion. Simple on the outside, but holding the deepest protection in the world on the inside.
Perhaps, this was what the very best kind of marriage looked like. The first meeting was an impulse, but seeing each other again brought deep affection. For the rest of their lives, they would never leave each other's side.
