As his words faded, a suffocating, deathly silence consumed the living room. James simply sat there, absorbing the entire sequence of events. His lowered eyes had long since turned blood red. His hands, resting on his knees, were clenched so tightly that his knuckles jutted out sharply, the veins on the back of his hands bulging as if they might tear through his skin.
He knew full well that at this point, Brian had absolutely no reason to invent lies to deceive him. This was the complete truth behind his second brother's tragic death. Everything had been orchestrated by his eldest brother, the man who appeared to be a gentle invalid, but harbored a mind as dark and venomous as a viper.
Standing behind him, Steve sucked in a breath of cold air, utterly bewildered. How old was Tyler Nelson back then? Barely in his twenties. Yet he already possessed such a terrifyingly meticulous and inhumanely cruel mind. It made sense now how, for over a decade, Tyler had maintained a facade of brotherly love with James so flawlessly that even Steve hadn't spotted a single crack.
Just then, the door was pushed open, and a grim-faced Captain Tyler strode into the room. He walked up to Steve and handed him the freshly printed documents. Steve snapped back to reality and took the papers. He walked over to the coffee table and slammed the stack down heavily in front of Brian, commanding coldly, "Sign it. Sign it, and you'll be sent out of the country tonight."
Eyes full of suspicion, Brian shakily pulled the documents closer and looked down. After reading just a few lines, his already pale face turned the color of dead ash.
It was a Permanent Surrender of Overseas Assets and Actions and Ban on Re-entry Agreement. The moment he signed it, he would voluntarily forfeit all his corporate shares and real estate within the country, and even have his domestic social identity completely erased. He would face forced emigration, and whatever assets he had left overseas would be frozen indefinitely. For a man who had spent most of his life clawing his way through the center of power, this was no agreement. It was a death warrant.
Hearing this, Brian's despair deepened. Deep down, he already knew. The moment he was imprisoned here and demanded to see James, he knew Tyler would send someone to silence him permanently. The only reason he was still sitting here in one piece, able to negotiate, was because the villa was completely surrounded by James's Shadow Core forces. Tyler's reach simply couldn't penetrate the perimeter.
"Sign it, and you can keep your miserable life and scrape by overseas." Steve straightened up, looking down at him as if he were already a corpse. "Don't sign it, and you won't even walk out the front door, let alone fly overseas to see your family. Make your choice. Do you want to be a living ghost, or a real corpse?"
