Even though James spoke with absolute certainty, Emmy's heart simply couldn't settle. She understood all too well how rapidly the tides could turn in the business world. Gripping his hand tightly, she asked, full of worry. "But honey, at such a crucial moment, can you afford not to be there? Once Brian falls, Martha won't last more than a few days. The entire company will be headless. It's the most dangerous, chaotic time, but it's also your best opportunity to take back Nelson Corporation and secure absolute power."
James lowered his eyes, quietly watching her as he listened to her rational analysis. His dark eyes held an abyss of stubbornness and profound devotion. Raising his free hand, he gently tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "I told you, until you deliver this baby safely, I will not leave your side for a single second. Especially... not this time. Brian deliberately chose to tear things apart with Martha now. It is obvious he factored you into his schemes, trying to use your safety to tie my hands."
James's gaze suddenly turned ruthless, like a ferocious beast guarding its mate. "Therefore, I will never leave you. And I will never let anyone who dares drag you into their plots get away with it. He dared to use you as a pawn, so I will make him pay with his entire life and fortune."
Hearing his words, Emmy fell silent. But deep down, she still worried about the unfolding crisis. Just then, her abdomen contracted violently once more without any warning. The downward pressure struck again, several times more agonizing than before.
"Ugh..." Emmy groaned, her fingers instinctively clamping down on James's hand with crushing force. She threw her head back, a fine layer of cold sweat instantly breaking out across her forehead. "Honey..." She took a sharp breath, confessing, "I think... I'm really in labor."
The moment the words registered, James's mind went entirely blank. His hands, which had never trembled even in the midst of a hail of bullets, began to shake uncontrollably. "Labor, you're in labor?" he mumbled, before snapping into action a split second later. "Don't be afraid, wife. I'm right here."
However, when the terrified doctors had rapidly prepared all the emergency equipment, the sight before them stopped them dead in their tracks. Emmy was sitting perfectly fine on the delivery bed. Her complexion was rosy, and aside from a little sweat on her forehead, even her breathing was steady. The one who looked completely disastrous was James, standing by the bed, his face ashen with terror.
Emmy was holding his hand, smiling helplessly as she gently tried to calm him. "It's just a little bit of pain, don't be so nervous. Really, that contraction passed, and it doesn't hurt anymore."
But James couldn't process a word she said. He stared fixedly at her belly, his eyes swimming with sheer panic. Seeing the doctors frozen in the doorway, he barked, "What are you standing there for! Get over here and examine her!"
