Emmy picked up her rose tea and took a small sip. The warm liquid slid down her throat, soothing her stomach and steadying her racing heart. She set the cup down and looked Cadence straight in the eye. "Even if this truly is an unsolvable dead end, things have already reached the point of no return. The arrow has left the bow. Whether it is a mountain of blades or a sea of fire ahead, I will walk through it with him."
Seeing the exact same stubbornness in her that James possessed, Cadence let out a heavy sigh. "You girl... Fine. To stabilize your father's political standing, I have already sold off all my shares and completely severed my ties with Nelson Corporation. The President is James's biological father, after all. Blood is thicker than water. I still hope you can properly persuade him. Even if he must strike, he shouldn't blow this out of proportion. He needs to exercise some restraint. International relations are already incredibly tense right now, with all factions watching closely. Your father is in a very difficult position at this critical juncture."
Hearing the compromise and genuine concern in Cadence's words, Emmy nodded in agreement. "I understand, Cadence. I will definitely pass your concerns on to him."
Relieved, Cadence looked at Emmy's heavy belly, her tone softening considerably. "Alright, let us drop these depressing matters. Your top priority right now is to rest and focus on the baby. I just hope this pregnancy goes smoothly, without any unexpected complications."
Cadence then shifted the conversation to lighter, everyday topics, and neither woman brought up the heavy burden of the corporate war again.
When Emmy and Cadence returned to the castle's living room, Emmy was slightly taken aback by the scene before her. The atmosphere wasn't nearly as tense as she had feared. Whatever James had discussed with Jared, the father and son were actually sitting together in rare, peaceful harmony. When dinner time arrived, the family even gathered around the long, expansive dining table for a genuinely warm meal. Bright crystal chandeliers cast a soft glow over the room.
Emmy nodded obediently and watched the black bulletproof sedan slowly drive out of the castle gates. The moment the taillights disappeared, she spun around to face James, asking eagerly, "Honey, did your father really give up on the idea of taking Joey and Dolly away to train them?"
With one hand casually tucked into his suit trousers, James looked at her and shook his head. Emmy's heart instantly leaped to her throat, her expression tightening in panic. "Then he..."
Before she could finish her frantic question, James reached out and supported her heavy waist. "Don't be nervous. With the old man's temper, how could he easily give up on grooming his own grandchildren? He just took a step back and gave up on taking them away." Walking her back into the house, James lowered his voice to explain. "I came to an agreement with him. He is going to send a team of elite private tutors directly to Cloudrest Peak to teach Joey and Dolly. After all, he knows very well that in all of The States, aside from his own side, Cloudrest Peak is the safest place."
