James slammed his fist violently against the wall right beside Emmy's ear. He was consumed by an overwhelming sense of regret. If all communication signals on the Delta coast had not been completely jammed, forcing him to rely solely on encrypted military channels to contact Calony, he never would have entrusted such a crucial part of the plan to that greedy bastard. He had assumed massive profits would keep Calony obedient. He never expected the scumbag would dare to backstab him just to lure Dean out, directly sending the real Emmy into the trap!
Seeing James's expression turn dangerously dark, Emmy wrapped her arms tightly around his lean waist. She looked up at him, promising her husband that she would protect herself. She pointed out that Will was also here, assuring him that they would retreat immediately if the situation turned sour.
Looking down into her clear, resilient eyes, James felt the fire in his chest burn even hotter rather than subsiding. He told her the situation was far more complicated than she thought. Turning his head, he shot a sharp, commanding glare at Will, barking out his name.
Will, who had been facing the door like a wooden post, instantly spun around and snapped to attention. James ordered Will to shadow Emmy without leaving her side for even a fraction of a second. He warned them that Dean, that absolute lunatic, was very likely on this very ship.
Will nodded heavily, acknowledging the order.
Just then, the cheerful sound of footsteps echoed from the end of the hallway. Clarissa's voice rang out, asking where the pretty lady was hiding.
Will immediately lowered his voice, alerting James and Emmy that the little princess was approaching.
Panic flared in Emmy's chest, and she instinctively stepped toward the deeper shadows of the room. She whispered that she needed to hide, unwilling to let the girl see them together.
But James caught her wrist, telling her there was no need to hide because Clarissa was incredibly easy to fool.
Almost the exact second he finished speaking, the door was pushed open. Clarissa ran in, lifting her skirt, and immediately spotted the two people standing near the entrance. Her eyes lit up, her mouth forming a perfect circle of surprise. She ran over and hugged James's arm, marveling at the fact that her beloved James was there too.
Over the next five minutes, James rapidly outlined his entire plan and the emergency evacuation routes. Glancing at her watch, Emmy decided it was time to leave. She smoothed out her slightly rumpled windbreaker, restored her aloof demeanor, and led Will out of the room first. James remained behind, waiting a few more minutes before stepping out with a grim, composed expression.
However, their staggered departures did not escape the surveillance cameras stationed in the hallway. Up in the monitoring room on the second floor, Hector leaned back on the sofa, staring fixedly at the large screen. The footage playing was the exact sequence of events outside that guest room door. It showed Emmy exiting first, followed by James a few moments later. Although Hector did not know what transpired inside, the fact that they emerged from the same room one after another spoke volumes!
Hector slammed the remote control violently onto the coffee table, the fleshy folds of his face trembling with rage. He barked an order to his assistant, demanding that James be brought to him immediately. The assistant bowed quickly and retreated.
Not long after, the door was pushed open. James strode in with his long legs, his face a mask of absolute calm. His deep black eyes were untroubled. Even facing a room packed with armed mercenaries, his commanding presence did not diminish in the slightest.
Sitting on the sofa, Hector lightly tapped his cigar against the table. His expression hovered somewhere between a smile and a scowl, radiating a bone-chilling, venomous malice. He leaned in and mentioned he had heard James's wife was also on the island today.
